UNFORGETTABLE ITALY contest: Week 10. Eternal City - Rome
ITALY. THE ETERNAL CITY - ROME.
And again I continue with a photo report about how our whole family traveled to the cities of Italy. The city of Rome, as we all know, is the capital of Italy. And the history of Rome is almost three thousand years old. The architecture of the city (Rome), and of the whole country (Italy), as well as works of art, had a huge impact on world culture. The ruins of the ancient Forum and the Colosseum demonstrate the former greatness of the Roman Empire. The Vatican, the seat of the leadership of the Catholic Church, is immensely popular with tourists for its St. Peter's Basilica and numerous museums. Among them is the Sistine Chapel, where you can see the famous frescoes by Michelangelo.
And also tourists can visit the Pantheon, which leaves an indelible impression. And further. The Vatican is the smallest state in the world (0.45 km²), which is located right on the territory of Rome, here they issue their passports, there is a small army and a post office, from where you can send a letter with an unusual departure address. Which is what we did. The main attraction of the Vatican is St. Peter's Cathedral, named after the Apostle Peter, who was executed here. This temple is the most important in all Catholicism, and the best masters worked on its creation: Michelangelo, Bernini, Raphael, Bramante. The Vatican Museums are the 5th most visited museums in the world and their popularity says how much interesting there is.
The museums were founded back in 1506 and over the course of 5 centuries the collection was replenished with new things and works of art. The Sistine Chapel is the main pearl of the Vatican Museums, which is famous all over the world for the magnificent fresco by Michelangelo "The Creation of Adam". The Pantheon (first photo) is one of the oldest temples in the world, preserved almost in its original form and still working. It was built almost 2000 years ago. The Pantheon was created at about the same time as the Colosseum. That's all for now - we'll talk about the rest of the sights of Rome next time. This was the photo report for the Unforgettable Italy competition.
My daughter is posing in photographs in Rome.
