Unforgettable Italy Contest. Dolomites Mountains I
For their beauty, the Dolomites were named a World Heritage Site on June 26, 2009. These mountains offer visitors an impressive view, ideal for spending your summer or winter vacation. So some impressions about our trip through the Dolomites. It was around 2016. The winding roads take us among the most beautiful landscapes of the mountains.
The white ridges of the mountains that rise to the sky appear from time to time in front of us. We're heading for Paso Falzarego. We stop in a beautiful valley with wide green pastures and admire the beauty of the Cinco Torri mountains.
We pass through Col di Lana, we visit the castle Castelo di Afraz. We reach Arabba, climb Paso Pordoi, then visit Val di Fassa with Canazei and Campitello di Fassa. In the afternoon we go to Paso Fedaia, with Lake Fedaia surrounded by the Marmolada Mountains, the highest and most spectacular mountains of the Dolmites. The next day the route starting from Col Rodella.
The first objective of the day is Paso Falzarego, which is located at an altitude of 2477 meters. The name Falzarego, a name of legend, in translation means false king and refers to King Fanes who betrayed his people and turned into a stone. Here you will meet the Tres Sass fortress from the First World War, which reminds us that this place was the scene of the great battles of defense of the area. A beautiful church with its special architecture fits perfectly into the fairytale landscape. Behind it rise the Sass di Stria mountains.
Walking on the road that crosses the Livinallongo Valley, you will see a sign that leads you to the Castle of Andraz, one of the few castles in Italy. Perched high on a rock, it served as a defense and houses a museum that presents the history, traditions and crafts of iron processing in the area. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful landscape, consisting of valleys full of green grass, mountain ridges and a waterfall; a mixture of colors. We take some photos and continue on our way.
