The Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena - The Red Carpet

in Italy3 years ago

All those who are passionate (and not too) about the automotive world, you have surely heard about the legendary car manufacturer, Enzo Ferrari - an emblematic figure of the automotive world who is also the founder of the company of the same name. The first Ferrari museum was opened in the city of Maranello, also home to the company's headquarters, the factory and the operational base of the Formula 1 team. Despite this, the history of Ferrari began in Modena, in the house of his father - Alfredo, who served as his workshop . In 2012, a museum bearing his name was inaugurated in that place. Being nearby, in Bologna, we could not miss the opportunity to visit the house museum Enzo Ferrari.

Here's what you can admire inside. This exhibition is entitled The Red Carpet.

  • From Modena Central Train Station it is 10-15 minutes to the destination, if you walk. There are signs to the museum, you can't pass by.
  • Entrance gate traditionally painted bright yellow.
  • The complex includes two buildings, the house where Enzo lived with his family, the house being built by his father - Alfredo Ferrari. All that remains of the building is the housing, which currently houses a permanent exhibition of engines and several Ferrari cars.
  • The museum's exhibition hall, where more than 20 car models are on display. The cost of the project amounted to 18 million euros, an investment sponsored by local authorities in Modena. It annually attracts over 100,000 tourists, which means a lot to the region's economy.
  • The whole complex seen from above. The shape of the futuristic roof is inspired by the air intakes on the hood. The roof is made of aluminum and is painted yellow, the holes are not only an aesthetic element, but also have the function of ventilation and natural lighting of the interior space.

  • The museum building was designed in 2003 by the famous architect Jan Kaplicky. After his death in 2009, he was carried to the end by his colleague from Future Systems, Andrea Morgante.
  • The price of a ticket for adults is 15 eur. If you are planning a visit to the Ferrari Museum in Maranello then it would be good to take a combined ticket, the cost of which is 26 euros, so you save 4 euros.
  • At the entrance we have a De Dion Bouton from 1903, one of the first cars in Modena. Alfredo Ferrari was in possession of such a car.
  • We move to the hall where every year various exhibitions with different themes are displayed. Currently, a temporary exhibition of Ferrari cars that have appeared on the big screens is active here and is called "The Red Carpet".

  • Ferrari 250 GTB SWB, appears in the film "A man and a woman" (Un homme et une femme), 1966.
  • This model was built in 1959, in a limited number of 176 copies. It is highly sought after among collectors, last year such a model was sold for 11.7 million pounds, a record price.
  • Ferrari F40 from the movie "Joshua Tree", 1993. The last car that Enzo Ferrari signed, therefore became one of the most sought after classic supercars. It has a 478-horsepower V8 turbo engine, recently sold for 1.2 million euros.
  • One of three Ferrari Thomassima ever built by Tom Meade. It appeared in 1955's The Racers, 1968's Histoires Extraordinaires and 1968's The Love Bug. The Thomassima II prototype was restored and sold on eBay when the first car was lost in 1966 when the river Arno flooded Florence.
  • F335 from the James Bond action film "Agent 007 vs. GoldenEye" and "The Rock" starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage.

  • "Miami Vice" was an 80's television series that made a Ferrari model famous, Testarossa. Initially, the main character in the film was driving a Corvette called Ferrari. When the Italian company heard about it, they wanted to sue him, but they reached a consensus and Ferrari sent two black copies of Testarossa, later painted white. The car is still known after the movie "Gone in Sixty Seconds". Produced between 1984 and 1996 in 7,177 copies, the Testarossa model boasts a body designed by Pininfarina and a 4.9-liter V12 engine, which produces 390 hp. By the way, the name Testarossa (Red Head) comes from the cylinder head which was painted red.
  • In the 1992 film "Perfume of a Woman" (Scent of a Woman), the main hero played by Al Pacino was driving a red World T convertible, in the museum the given model is presented in white.
  • "Le Mans", 1971. Another great car movie, the film features two of the most ephemeral racing prototypes ever built - the Porsche 917 and the Ferrari 512S. Enzo Ferrari refused to give cars, after reading the script and finding out that Porsche is the winner. He offered to give 512s for filming only if the script changes. The production studio did not agree and was forced to borrow cars from a Belgian dealer.
  • 375 America appears in the movie "Boy on a Dolphin."

  • The new LaFerrari model has not appeared in movies but is the fastest Ferrari of all time, reaching a speed of 350 km / h and accelerating from 0 to 100 in less than 3 seconds. It costs 1.6 million euros with a 6.3-liter V12 engine and 800 hp under the hood along with a 163 hp electric one.
  • The Formula 1 F2007 car with which Kimi Räikkönen became champion in 2007 and the Ferrari team won the constructors' cup. He alludes to the movie "Rush: Rivalry and Adrenaline", which tells the story of two of the most famous rival drivers: James Hunt and Niki Lauda, but also the fight between their teams, McLaren and Ferrari.
  • At one point in the hall the light goes out and a movie show begins that uses 19 projectors to broadcast a documentary about the life of Enzo Ferrari. From a young man who worked at Alfa Romeo until he became one of the most famous people in the automotive world.
After a short pause on the same screen, another movie is shown containing sequences from the movies in which Ferrari appears, those models I wrote about above. You can watch the video below. The sound in the hall is as impressive and resonant as in a cinema and unfortunately it cannot be played in this video.
  • At the exit you can try the Formula 1 sensation on a simulator, 25 eur for 7 minutes seemed a bit exaggerated.

  • Legendary Ferrari speedboat with soul - Arno XI. The floating car manufactured in 1953 remains the fastest boat in its weight category.
  • Dino 206 GT, the first Ferrari car assembled with a V6 engine built by engineer Vittorio Jano and Enzo's son - Alfredo, caressed "Dino". This model had the mission to compete with the Porsche 911, for which a V6 with a lower price was needed. Enzo was adamant and only accepted V12 engines on his models, he had to agree to the launch of this model with V6 engine and propulsion with one condition: it will not be called Ferrari or emblem of the horse. At the age of 24, his son passed away, to pay homage to him, Enzo Ferrari launched the Dino 206 GT model. The Dino models had a new emblem on the hood, consisting of the name "Dino" on a yellow background. The 206 GT version was produced in only 150 units.

About the same for today, the next article will be about the Ferrari museum in Marranello. By the way, the Casa Enzo Ferrari museum has nothing to do with the one in Maranello which is officially the museum of the Italian car manufacturer. The investment, as I wrote above, was made by the Modena authorities to attract a larger number of tourists to the area. And because when you want and you have someone to do anything with.
