E.R. (also known as "Emergency Hospital") and Chicago Hope appeared in 1994, but were broadcast a little later, I do not even know in what order and what television. E.R. it was on Mediaset, Chicago Hope on RAI as if It is certain that at that time they broke up. I don't think he was a bit more watched than E.R., people talked about it when they met, kind of like Game of Thrones or House of Cards. Ten years later, Dr. House and Grey's Anatomy followed, breaking audiences in two.

And now I see that it's crazy again with a series like this, "New Amsterdam", on Netflix. This time the action takes place in New York (by the way, did you know that New Amsterdam was the original name of NY, given by the Dutch settlers who founded the city? And it was part of the New Netherland). That's right, after Chicago Hope and E.R. they stewed with hospitals in Chicago, they've been trying variants with Miami, Los Angeles and other US cities, this one with New York seems to be going well.

What fascinates me is this attraction of the public to series with doctors. I take it that this would be the main concern of the planet. I can't think of any other profession that has had so many successful series. I kept wondering what the explanation is, why people like to see how some people run with patients on the stretcher, how all kinds of patients die, while the team of doctors runs a story with light intrigues and punctual love stories.

I think it's just that good dynamic, plus the feeling that you're learning something. When E.R. and Chicago Hope are even discussing the fact that people are beginning to think they know how to get sick after watching a few dozen episodes of these series. It seems simple when someone comes in with a headache and the doctor says "yes, give him 50 mg of FCP, then 100 mg of TSD, then do an MRI and an FCSB, he probably has Ewing's sarcoma".

The difference from a few years ago, is that we can search the net immediately, on the phone, without interrupting the series. By the end of the episode, we already know what Ewing's sarcoma is and how it is treated. Or at least we think we know. Otherwise, New Amsterdam is a nice series, with many exaggerated phases, but done nicely, on the positive side. The first two seasons are on Netflix, the third season began to air in the US, I do not know about us, what is the situation.
