The Diary Game 15/10/2021 - Roman Holiday: Visiting Rome through the Eyes of Audrey Hepburn

in Italy3 years ago

Who doesn't remember this title - Roman Holiday? Who can forget Audrey Hepburn's conquering and at the same time innocent smile? Even if it is her first main role, she is also the one who won the hearts of the general public and here I am, being one of my favorite actresses. Love story overcomes any barriers, especially those regarding the position in society and is a film that does not disappoint over the years, especially since it has an atypical ending, which would certainly be different now, if a Hollywood remake were made.

Audrey Hepburn, who was also awarded the Oscar for Best Actress for this role, is gorgeous in her appearance, as Princess Ann, a young woman tired of the duties given by her position, which forces her to always be smiling, happy and perfect, which brings him no passion, because of which he cannot fulfill any mad desire.

Arriving in Rome, she has a moment of despair, boredom and saturation of such a role that she does not want and runs through the streets, one night, hoping that she will know another life. Asleep by the pills she received before leaving, she is found on a bench by Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck-friendly and serious), a journalist who doesn't know her face, although she has to get to her press conference the next day.

The moment he realizes who she is, after a night full of adventures, think that she may be the one who can relaunch his career as a journalist and his bank account so quite precarious, and may represent his chance to return to America.

But as he gets to know her better, his vision of the princess changes: she is simple, she likes to wander, to walk, to taste champagne or ice cream, to stop listening to counselors or butlers, to wear short hair (absolutely gorgeous ) or to fight with the secret agents who came to catch her. Does love appear or is it just a significant part of life that determines you to rethink your priorities?

From the beginning, we find out that "Roman Holiday" is filmed entirely in Rome and, indeed, the view of the Italian capital is enchanting, it seems a timeless city, which has not lost its charm at all after the Second World War, maybe just the value of money.

It is a film that made a sensation at the time, having no less than ten Oscar nominations and winning three awards (besides Hepburn, the costume award and the award for best story for a screenplay-Dalton Trumbo). It is a superb film, a film warmly recommended to all romantics and moviegoers.
