The tension between hope and despair: Why do we consciously hope?
Our mind is a complicated place. On the one hand, it is filled with dreams and hopes, on the other hand, it sinks into the abyss of despair and sorrow. Sometimes all these feelings come together and confuse us. "There is no such shameless thing as the mind. It ends knowingly, yet it waits." This quote tells us a very real experience - when all hope is gone, we still hold on to hope that maybe something will get better.
The reason we consciously hope is not just habit or the thrill of the unknown. Hope is also an important part of our mental health. It gives us the strength to face difficult situations. When all seems dark, hope is the light of hope, the belief that the sun will rise one day. This belief motivates us not to give up and to keep trying.
As an example, suppose a student fails a difficult test. He may be disappointed, but hope will encourage him to try again and do better. Hope this will help him take positive steps like studying more and improving his technique for next time.
Although hope is essential, it is also true that too much hope can lead to disappointment. When we expect the impossible, disappointment sets in when reality doesn't match up. For this reason, it is important to consider the actual situation as well as hope.
It does not mean that we should not dream, but we should aim to make these dreams come true.
Ultimately, it is important to find a balance between hope and reality. We will have dreams, and we will have hopes, but at the same time, it is important to accept the reality. To find this balance, keep the following in mind:
Assess the probability of what you are hoping for. This will save you from disappointing yourself with unnecessary expectations.
Don't just hope, plan to fulfill that hope. Move towards the goal slowly by taking small steps.
If for some reason your expectations are not fulfilled, do not despair and think of alternatives. Everything in life doesn't go our way, so accept the situation and develop the mindset of starting something new.
It is this shameless hope in our minds that helps us move forward in life. But with a little caution, we can turn this hope into our strength. Have hope, but plan realistically and move forward. This way you can save yourself from depression and build a beautiful and successful life.
