Travelogue S15 , Bali- 02 - In a hidden corner of Tanha Lot
After our first day at the Seminyak Beach in Bali. On the 2nd day we decided we would head out to Tanha Lot Temple. Having seen the Tanha Lot temple as a sticky picture in almost every Bali tourism pamphlet, the curiosity was simply too much !
Now Tanha Lot is a massive rock formation on the cost of Bali. Its famous for the " Pura Tanha Lot Temple" . It was founded in the 16th century by a monk called Dang Hyang Nirartha. Also the legend goes that the temple is guarded by mystical venomous snakes who live among the rocks in the bottom of the temple caves.
The inner sanctums of the temples are closed to visitors since the excessive footfalls have started to cause damage to the structure. However that's immaterial since the place has so much to offer one can still have the time of their lives.
It took us over an hour and a half to reach Tanha Lot temple from our resort in Seminyak. Its best to rent a bike. Four wheelers are a bad idea in Bali, especially tourist areas.
Visits to the Tanah Lot Temple are subject to an entrance fee of IDR 20,000 for (adult) domestic tourists, and IDR 60,000 for (adult) foreigners.
The pathway to the Tanha Rocky complex is through a market. While its a tourist area, the prices are still affordable. One can pretty much find everything in that market. Touristy tit-bits, souvenirs,food and drinks,paintings and traditional Balanese art & craft.

After the market you go through a doorway and you see heaven! Its a huge rocky complex spread over a kilometer. The island is the main attraction with the temple on top and tourists mostly tend to wander around close to the main structure and initially so did we !

However if you are curious minded you can take a walk to the left (if you face the temple). You will see a lot more of the rocky complex and i promise you, thou shall not be disappointed.
We walked on for about a kilometer and then climbed up a plateau. The place was deserted and the view was breath taking. You will feel as if you are part of a painting !
The whole place is deserted with a nice path leading up to the place, great for pictures and one does tend to get naughty ideas ;)

Once we were done with the whole scenic view bit of it we headed back and stopped by to check out the market and the eateries that are located to the left of this gate.
The joints have a panoramic view of the whole beach and temple complex from a height. The wind is welcoming ! Its the perfect place to sit and grab a meal and an exotic drink maybe ;)
