I'm still in Okayama, Japan in this post. I'm going to Naoshima Island, which is an island of art, and includes house museums and outdoor gallaries.

Breakfast at Hotel Abest Grande Okayama

My breakfast

I had breakfast at the hotel. Not bad for a budget hotel.

Let's go!

Take the Uno train line from Okayama Station to Uno Station about 45-60 minutes. You might have to transfer at Chayamachi Station. It's 590 JPY one way. And then walk to Uno Port to take the ferry about 20 minutes to Miyanoura Port on Naoshima Island, which is 270 JPY one way.

When you get off the ferry, you will see an outdoor work called "Red Pumpkin" near the port. It is a landmark of Naoshima Island.

Naoshima Island

Naoshima Island is a small island in the Seto Inland Sea with just 3000 people. Now it is a land of art that attracts art lovers.

How To Travel Around Naoshima Island

Bicycle rental shop

The easy way for tourists are either renting a bicycle or taking a bus. Not far from the port are a few bicycle rental shops. I recommend renting an electric bicycle because the road on Naoshima Island has many slopes and curves, so it might help. No reservation is necessary. You can rent on the day you arrive. Prices start from 500 JPY and go up to 1,500 JPY depending on the type of bicycle. The good point of renting a bicycle is you can feel free to do anything and spend time anywhere you want.

Public bus

I decided to take the bus though, because it is convenient and not tiring. Please note, the buses are limited, so please make sure to get the right bus and be on time.

First, I visited the Chichu Art Museum. Unfortunely, the entrance tickets were sold out and you could only purchase tickets online. So I just strolled around the Chichu Garden in front of the museum.

There are some outdoor works near Benesse House Museum. Why don't I stop by?

This outdoor work at a famous photo spot by Yayoi Kusama is called "Yellow Pumpkin". Feel free to take a photo with the landscape view of the beach. There are probably people swimming here in the summer.

Next to Benesse House Museum

Outdoor work

Benesse House Museum opened in 1992. It is a museum inside a hotel based on a concept of coexistence of nature, art and architecture by Tadao Ando.

It was time to ride the ferry so I headed to the port and strolled around and looked at some more outdoor artwork.

This is a public bath house where visitors can experience taking a bath surrounded by artwork.

Coin locker

If you have a lot of stuff, no worries. There is a coin locker service at the port for 500 JPY per locker.

I had to say goodbye to Naoshima Island and head back to Osaka.

But my trip wasn't finished yet, as there were some outdoor works near Uno Port.

Look at this!

I really like this one. This is a big fish. If you look closer you can see that it's made from plastic appliances.

Today I enjoyed my trip very much and I hope you like my post.
