Olympic Torch Relay in Japan
Today, the Olympic torch came through our town in Japan. It started in Shirataki Park in Mishima, Shizuoka, and went along the road to the town center where it turned left and headed for the large shrine in the town, Mishima Taisha. We watched the mini festival travel past us, which mainly consisted of a huge police escort. Not surprising really considering that most Japanese people don't want the Olympics to happen this year, the hotels and gift shops will be closed, no foreign visitors will be coming or their money, no-one has received the coronavirus vaccine yet, only the very old, and everyone knows that the totally corrupt Olympic committee will pocket most of the cash from this event, leaving the Japanese people completely out of pocket. Anyway, apart from those little niggles, everything went according to plan. The man with the torch ran down the street, quite a lot of people came out to see it, and the roads were closed nice and methodically to let the torch pass. The torch was carried by a local junior high school track and field coach, so that's nice, I suppose. After the short event, we had a few beers in the beer garden nearby. It was an interesting hour and a half this evening! Here are some pictures of the event.
