Travel to Saigon Day 3 : Photos and Story

Each day, we're faced with the question of how to find our way through the obstacles and challenges of life. We look for answers in books, in music, in movies, in conversations with friends, and in nature.

We hunger for adventure tho deep down inside, for new experiences, because they feed the soul. These are the things that give meaning to our lives.

Have you ever felt like you needed to escape the mundane and boring life that you have created? This is a reason why we love to travel. We want to explore the unknown and to experience new cultures, flavors, and people.

  • Do you ever feel like you need to escape the monotonous life you have created?

With every new adventure comes the opportunity to capture priceless memories and new experiences. As humans, we hunger for adventure and new experiences because it feeds the soul. We’re constantly seeking out new things to do, new places to explore, and new people to meet.

This is why we always have our eyes open for fun activities, travel opportunities, and random events. And, while it’s not always easy to take on new adventures, it’s always worth it in the end (You can read the post as to why HERE.

The third day in Saigon was a day full of adventures and it did end up feeding the soul, but perhaps draining the wallet bit. Here's a summary of the day. :)

A bit of a late morning start due to the late night the last night but about 8:30 I was out and about, the goal was to get some work completed. But what a nice way to start the day!

On the Internet I looked up coffee shop that looked relatively nice, so hit the street and headed towards the general direction. To my dismay however there was no coffee shop there anymore, or at least I couldn't find it wherever it might've been tucked away, so I looked for a second one that also ended up being bunk... But the third one.. ahhhhh the third one was found.

No coffee shop here...

20210415_084217.jpg

Not the coffee shop I was looking for but still a cool photo...

20210415_085051.jpg

And finally the coffee shop I end up sitting in for couple hours to work.

20210415_114952.jpg

Inside the ambience was relatively mellow though the ceilings were quite low, I can only imagine then some Western countries places like this would not be allowed to open due to regulations... But here it's seem to be fine.

The coffee shop is called : Katinat Bến Thành

After three hours of working, typing out my blog article per day 2 HERE, and typing on my article for @dbuzz... Gabby join me for little, and then we headed out to meet Eric for some lunch.

On the way however we stop by the large "Ben Thanh Market" (Location here : https://goo.gl/maps/F2SWWgvgr8eeLwFo7 ) and it was a cool place, however the people selling you stuff grab your arms and really demanded you buy from them. I personally found this to be offensive and opted not to buy anything even though I wanted to.

This is a picture of the meat alley.

Eric Gabby and I jumped into the cab and headed down the street a little way to a hidden alleyway that serves good breakfasts on the cheap.

20210415_122827.jpg

FYI do not have an exact address for this location is sort of next this area, https://goo.gl/maps/1HqcSCWnYGUQ21Ao8 , you could see in the photo below it's between the blue and red umbrella. If I was not with Eric, I would not known about it I would probably had not ventured down the alleyway. lol

20210415_123526.jpg

inside however the place was bustling with locals and motorbikes writing by as people ate breakfast and all manners of food

20210415_123551.jpg

like the stall selling some snails ... not my thing but hey some people love em.

20210415_123623.jpg

20210415_123627.jpg

Myself being a vegetarian, Eric inquired with some the locals if there is a vegetarian option inside this alleyway. The response we got back was " there nothing but devils in here, no vegetarian". HAHAHA... omg, such an answer.

20210415_123927.jpg

I did sit with them for a little as they ate their meat, then my belly said... "you're hungry I got up to leave". Before I did it took this cool photo of a little door leading to who knows where.

20210415_124055.jpg

On my own I set off down the street one restaurant bit of a high price tag, so I turned around and went to know the location. This place was on the second floor ( though really third floor), to get to the main stairs you had to pass through this salon style art gallery which was awesome.

This location is right next to this place : https://goo.gl/maps/dcEbwNWnF3dCkD3M6

20210415_125115.jpg

Wish I took more photos of the stairs and here because they were quite steeped in history, however I took a quick shot on the way up as I was hungry. And yes ... there is a big sign that says "no camera"... I did not see that until I posted this photo.

20210415_125129.jpg

Here's a picture of the lunch I had at about 1 PM. I'm happy I waited in did not get some Street meat or other thing as this little Pokey vegetarian bowl was great.

20210415_130346.jpg

Gabby and Eric join me after I finished and then we headed off to the heart of darkness brewery just down the street. If you are in Saigon check out the heart of darkness brewery located here : https://g.page/heartofdarknessbrewery?share .

20210415_132341.jpg

We stayed here for a bit and I had a piña colada beer. I am not that distinguish because it couldn't tell the difference too much between this and other beer but did have a good flavor.

20210415_132742.jpg

One thing about this location I really enjoyed was the artwork that painted. The tricolored imagery have a lot to discover. I found myself in the bathroom staring at a mural for probably too long...

20210415_143227.jpg

After this we decided back to the hotel as Eric had to go take care of some business, Dropping our laptops off at the hotel, Gabby and I went out for a walk... on mission to find a clean shirt, so we decide to try the market once again.

20210415_150635.jpg

Again while the market was super fun the overly pushy people trying to make a sale turned me off and I did not want to shop there at all.

20210415_151131.jpg

Gabby I just headed out for a stroll then walked about the streets of the bit trying to discover some fun places.

20210415_151938.jpg

We walk through a park that was quite nice actually.

20210415_152118.jpg

Talking and walking was what we accomplished until started to rain and we headed back to the hotel to get a nap in before heading out for the evening. This photo doesn't show too much but there is rain coming down... We ended getting back about 4 PM.

20210415_160445.jpg

I member I hit the bed super hard I was out. I think I slept for two or three hours until my alarm went off I got dressed... we were going to go to a place called dining in the dark. This is a restaurant that you eat in complete darkness, the serving staff are all blind Vietnamese people. it's a really cool experience and provides work for an underserved population. We arrived about 7:15 pm (* even though our reservations were for 7 PM). lol

Here is the location : https://goo.gl/maps/iNuoDYt9QwGNr2bi9

20210415_191746.jpg

The place was beautiful though.

20210415_191842.jpg

Eric and Courtney joined us a bit later and we had the dining the dark experience. It was a very unique experience that I might do a whole blog post upon. I highly recommend you try out this restaurant when you have a chance or at least experience this style of dinning.

After dinner Eric had to head out for another meeting so Courtney, Gabby and I went out to find some adventure! we tried out one mysterious bar... That was located kind of here but inside people were way to loud and there is no music so we left shortly after siting.

20210415_214501.jpg

20210415_214729.jpg

We travel down the street on foot passed many fancy places and many people... .This I don't have any more idea of the exact locations we were at so excuse no location marks.

20210415_215119.jpg

20210415_215210.jpg

Eventually we arrived at this alleyway and to the next bar we were going to. I believe it was called the lost bar.

20210415_215302.jpg

20210415_215310.jpg

Inside the facility was quite beautiful, Courtney would later comment that this is a great date space. And the blocking around snapping a few photos as jazz singers song and we ordered some drinks.

As I was a bit peaked, I decided to have some espresso martinis which fired me up for the rest the evening. After two espresso martinis, Eric joined along with another one of our friends, and we thought it was time to move along to the next bar.

20210415_231006.jpg

It was about 11:50 PM when we left the bar and headed down the street on foot to the next location that was somewhere I do not know... the walk however was nice heare are some photos from that walk.

20210415_234653.jpg

20210415_234845.jpg

We eventually arrived at this fancy martini bar to which we would start doing shots of tequila out later on... omg.

It was a little bit past midnight when we did our first tequila shots... here's a photo of the group of us together.

20210416_001445.jpg

I enjoy getting this weird exotic drink with a Tamron root on it.

20210416_002445.jpg

And then the tequila shots came... oh, instant regret. lol

20210416_001843.jpg

We stayed there for a while as a DJ was playing a really fun set, we all have dancing a bunch.

20210416_010012.jpg

At about 1:30 AM we headed out to another location that Eric wanted to show us, one of the famous walking streets in Saigon. We jumped out by the Yolo bar and walked down the street a bit.

20210416_012758.jpg

This street was pretty darn intense, you're greeted by a bunch of little kids who run over and hug your legs and then try to sell you gum for an inflated price, to which while it breaks your heart, have to say no... then the the street itself was filled with bars and restaurants playing heavy hitting loud techno music.

20210416_013124.jpg

We didn't stay for any drinks here we just did a walk up and down and taking a look at all the sites, after taking a few photos we probably back in a cab and headed crosstown to another location "The Birdy Bar", who was a bit smaller and more subdue for you guessed it, more tequila shots.

20210416_020737.jpg

20210416_020754.jpg

20210416_021455.jpg

2 AM we decided to have a more ligh evening drink...

20210416_021952.jpg

20210416_022443.jpg

After a few drinks we decided it was time to see if there's another place still open... to which am kind of glad there wasn't.. lol

20210416_025847.jpg

After this we piled back into a cab, drop Courtney off in her house, I went back to the same place we went to on our first night for vegetarian food late night.

20210416_032736.jpg

While dining we are also hit up to buy some lotto tickets which I still have to check to see if I want. I sure hope I did.

20210416_032848.jpg

4 AM we ended up getting back to the hotel and passing out. All in all this was a very awesome day filled with lots of different and new experiences. But it was time to sleep and wake up Tomorrow for the final day in Saigon.

Thanks for taking time to read this article I hope you enjoyed it.
