I love Ashaiman my hometown, located in the capital city of Ghana very much because it very beautiful and dirty as well, Yes that true! I do not want to speak about the dirty chucked gutters and poor but good settlement. Yes, my father was a hardworking Fisherman in Accra who work zealously to care for us, from our childhood along with our mother. We specifically reside in Ashaiman the peaceful and the notorious city in Ghana.

What I love about Ashaiman is about the people and their culture. The various cultures found here are rich and vibrant. The people in Ashaiman have good virtues like friendliness; they are polite, open and trusting — even with strangers.
In Ashamain Municipal, it is the traditional to take life at a relaxed pace and view time as a series of events rather than a matter of hours or minutes.

In Ashaiman, people are more important than schedules.** “Let’s get to business” conversation is considered rude. It is the custom for the citizens in Ashaiman to inquire about family before beginning business. We greet one another, making extra effort to greet older people. With the men, it is tradition for handshakes to almost always accompany greetings. (However, the COVID-19 have put us on hold from handshake to prevent the spread of the Virus).

Ashaiman being my hometown comprises six major ethnic groups that break into more than 60 smaller ones. For example: the six larger groups are the Akan (Ashanti and Fanti), the Ewe, the Ga-Adangbe, the Mole-Dagbani, the Guan and the Gruma. The large spoken common language is the Twi language and the Ga-Adamgbe.

We the citizens in Ashaiman emphasize values such as the importance of family, respect for the elderly and honor for traditional leader.

In Ashaiman, we place high value on dignity and proper social conduct. Individual conduct is seen as having impact on an entire family, social group and community. Therefore, each person is expected to be respectful, dignified, and observant in almost every aspect of life. An entire family shares any loss of honor, which makes the culture a collective one. In order to protect this sense of “face,” there is a need to maintain harmony. People behave with decorum to ensure that they do not cause embarrassment to others. (Some citizens in Ashaiman behave indecently but that is normal for we are all imperfect human beings)

Eventually, I love my hometown Ashaiman because everything is shared — even food, no matter how small the amount.

In Ashaiman from my childhood, staying here had enabled me to learn how to speak various languages from our communities. It is the tradition for citizens in Ghana to invites the other to join him whiles eating. However, in my community at Ashaiman Lebanon, Zenu and New York citizens practice this habit of inviting others whiles eating.

Here are the Common greetings in various communities in Ashaiman as below:
• Maakye — Good morning
• Maaha — Good afternoon
• Maadwo — Good evening
• Wohu te sen? — How are you?
• Onyame na adom me hu ye — By the Grace of God, I am fine
• Me daase — Thank you
• Kusee — Sorry
• Me paa wo kyeo (ky sounds “ch” as it would sound in “chain”) — Please

“But it considered “rude” when we use our left hand to greet an older person in our community. It is traditional to never use the left hand to eat or gesture, however.”

We the citizens in Ashaiman and it environs love music, festivals and traditional dances. This ways of life deepens my love for my hometown called Ashaiman.

Here are some common types of music is that we the citizen in Ashaiman love very much like the gospel, traditional music, Highlife music’s, and Hip life. Never forget dancehall and Azonto dance. We sang these songs in concert halls, churches, schools and colleges. These are the reason I love my hometown than any place.
