The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) has been able to give assistance to colleges, universities, and even students for the adverse effects that the COVID-19 virus has brought. This is because it was established from various federal packages, including the one provided under the CARES Act and also the American Rescue Plan (HEERF III). Such grants assist students in covering crucial expenses including tuition, accommodation, food, and health care. Funds were also available to institutions to keep their operations going and minimize student dropout.

In 2021 and in the year 2022, millions of students able to take advantage of the emergency funds especially those in the most need such as Pell Grant holders and students from poor communities. The initiative has shown that it’s effective in improving performance and persistence among students, particularly by focusing on food insecurity, child or infant care, and mental health【7】【8】.
