Adaptations

Dragonfly nymphs have several unique adaptations that help them thrive in their aquatic environments:
Rectal Gills: Nymphs breathe through gills located inside their rectum. They draw water in and out of their hind end, which allows them to extract oxygen from the water12. This adaptation also enables them to rapidly expel water, propelling themselves forward to escape predators or catch prey.
