Main Problem of Free Fair Election can be solved with Decentralized Voting Systems in Bangladesh

If someone is asked what is the biggest problem currently in the voting system in Bangladesh? The people of Bangladesh, any media, and civil society will agree in one sentence that the main problem here is to ensure the participation of all parties. As you know, Bangladesh is going to have an election on 7th January 2024 and although several parties are participating in that election, some parties who were once the opposition and formed the government are refusing to participate.

An election is somewhat questionable when all parties do not participate, or some major parties do not participate. And what we see as the main reason for this is who will be in government during the election period. That is, the party that is in the government is conducting the election from the government, which other parties object to. Many are dismissing this objection because it is not in the rules of the constitution and many are saying that in a third world country like Bangladesh, a government can abuse its power while conducting elections, although in theory it is said that the Election Commission is an independent constitutional institution. So, the main problem here is the reluctance to choose others under a particular party. So, everyone wants i.e. those who are not participating want an interim or caretaker government system to be introduced so that everyone can participate in the electoral process with equal opportunity.

Blockchain technology has an excellent solution to the problem originally addressed. One of the most important features and foundations of blockchain technology is that it is a decentralized system where no activity is controlled by anything owned by any individual. Rather, from the voting system to any of our daily tasks, financial transactions, banking, music, etc., there is technology to be done automatically within certain rules.

In decentralized technology, it is not possible for anyone to manipulate anything i.e. once a voter has voted, there is no chance of tampering, fabricating, or manipulating the vote data. As the entire system will be run in a decentralized system, all the participants will be guaranteed equal opportunity in all aspects, which is the main demand of those who are not currently participating in the elections.

So, I think that Decentralized and Blockchain technology ensures data safety, transparency, fairness, and security and this technology restricts voting from one person to another, vote manipulation data tampering, or any system of early or late voting. Not if it is done through blockchain technology. So, I've focused on applying blockchain to one of the main problems here today, and in future posts, I'll try to address some of the other problems and their solutions with blockchain technology in the next posts.

Sorry about the problem of voting you are facing in Bangladesh. And you are decentralized voting system will really go a long way in improving free and fair elections in your country and mine.

You are right. Blockchain is not only for crypto but also we can use it for election. In the current situation of Bangladesh I must say a decentralised voting system will be good choice.
