How do they work and how are fees charged for Tron transactions? What is the bandwidth and energy of network resources and how are charges calculated?

How It Works :: TRON Blockchain Fees

When performing a transaction on any blockchain, users must pay a transaction fee. This fee is measured in different units depending on the protocol and network. The TRON fee is calculated using blockchain-specific metrics called energy and throughput.

In this article, we will take a detailed look at how TRON fees work and how they are generated.

TRON resource model

The TRON blockchain has two main units of measure: energy and bandwidth. Transaction byte size is measured in bandwidth, and each account needs bandwidth to transfer assets on the network: every 24 hours, each active TRON address gets 1,500 bandwidth points for free.

Energy is another unit of resource used to measure the amount of computation required by the TRON Virtual Machine to perform a certain operation. Smart contract payments are calculated using energy points.

Unlike bandwidth, energy is only available through TRX betting and is not provided as free points per day.

TRON has a daily limit on the total amount of resources that can be accessed online. For example, the total daily fixed throughput is set at 43,200,000,000,000.

This means that if a certain amount of TRX is sent, the number of points that can be obtained from it is not fixed and can be calculated by a formula.

The same rules apply to units of energy. Depending on the complexity of the smart contract, different amounts of energy can be consumed. The current price per unit of energy is 280 SUN.

If there is not enough energy in the checking accounts to cover the fee, TRX must be burned to pay for the corresponding energy. The maximum energy supply for the entire network is 90,000,000,000 per day.

How to calculate TRON fee

All types of TRON transactions consume bandwidth points. Currently, the price per unit of throughput is SUN 1,000.

Transactions are transmitted and stored on the network as arrays of bytes, and the bandwidth used for a transaction is equal to the size of this array of bytes.

For example, if the byte array is 200, the charge will be 200 throughput points. The larger the transaction, the more bandwidth resources are consumed.

If the account does not have sufficient bandwidth, then TRX must be spent from the sender's account to pay for bandwidth points.

Smart contracts consume energy and also need throughput points to publish and confirm transactions.

Compared to other blockchain networks and their resource and fee models, TRON is very friendly, which is one of the reasons why it has attracted the attention of many developers.
