Game of The Year From 2003 - 2023 || Part 4 || Tron Fan Club
Greetings everyone. Hopefully everyone is doing well and having a good time in the community.
In part 3, we've talked about some of the best games developed and released in the time frame between 2010-2011. In today's addition, we are going to move forward and highlight some of the best games released between 2012 - 2014. Some of the very popular games were released between this time. Among them is one of my favorite games of all time which is The Walking Dead, season 1. And the most revolutionary open world based game and one of the most selling video games of all time, GTA 5 was also released between this time period. Gaming surely took a pretty big leap after the release of these games. Some of those games are still playable very much and has quite the active fan base till date. Let's get straight in to those games without wasting any more words.
2012
The Walking dead has one of the most emotionally attached stories ever made in a video game. And the new type of gameplay where your story will shape by the choices you make as you progress the story was such an innovative idea to come up with. That's the main thing people loved about this game at first. Cause this was something new in the gaming world and people like to see new stuffs in games all the time. This game is basically an episode based graphic adventure game which was developed and published by Telltale games. The game takes place in a zombie apocalypse where you have to survive and provide for all the other members in the gang. The story of this game feels like a series or that's what the devs tried to pull of initially. In each episodes, there are twists, panic moments, choosing and molding the relationship between the members of the gang and specially choosing whom to save in a situation where one of the important member of your gang will must die. This part of the game is very hard. Cause it is real hard to save one and leave the other in the face of certain death.
The Walking Dead: Season 1 received around 80 GOTG awards from various outlets. Which is why this game is often considered the best game of 2012 and is considered the Game of the Year for 2012 as well. This game had sold over 8.5 million individual units sold by the end of 2012, which is a huge number.
2013
I don't think I have to tell you the name of this game. Because this has got to be one of if not the most popular video game ever released. GTA 5 had set up a standard for open world games after it's release. Modern games are often compared with this game and it still holds up it's own even after a decade later. Before the release of this game, GTA San Andreas was the most popular game released by Rockstar games. But this game changed it all after it's release. Grand Theft Auto 5 takes place in in the fictional state of San Andreas. Yes, the game takes place at the same location as GTA San andreas but there is a big time gap between the story of them. In GTA 5, you play as 3 criminals who attempts to change their lives by attempting heists while navigating a vast open world. This game has the most amazing open world experience till date. The graphics of this game stills holds up to this day and the story of the games was pretty nicely done. The new and unique feature which hadn't been done in a Gta game before was there were 3 main characters in this game. You can switch between them as the story progresses and play various cool missions with them.
The only reason this game has such a big player base and good reviews are the amazing realistic graphics and the online versoin of the game. In GTA online, you can play with friends and wreck havoc around the city as you please. Roleplaying is one of the best things I've seen in this game. What's breathtaking is this game has reportedly sold over 185 million copies with a net profit of approximately $8 billion. $8 billion dollar profit on a video game! This has to be a record of some sort.
That's why Rockstar games is working even harder on their next big game: GTA 6 which might get released on 2024. The trailer for the game should be released next month. The estimated budget for this game is around 2 billion dollar. One can only assume how this game is going to be by these numbers.
2014
I think we all agree that this game didn't won the game of the year for 2014. But this game is surely more popular than most other games released on 2014. Because Far Cry 4 is still considered as one of the best in the far cry series and it is still played despite it's a 9 year old game. The graphics of this game still holds up and it has a pretty decent story as well. The story of this game might not be the best of the series but it's still not that boring and people still enjoy playing this game. I prefer Far Cry 2 and 3 over this one. Specially Far Cry 3 has to be the best game in the series for it's amazing story progression and the best story of the series alongside one of the best 3rd person shooting experience. Far Cry 4 takes place in the fictional Himalayan region of Kyrat. The atmosphere and the visuals of this game is stunning. The snowy mountains feels amazing in high graphics settings. The game is mostly praised for it's stunning landscapes, dynamic gameplay, and a compelling narrative.
Far Cry 4 sold over 10 million copies worldwide. This game could have been better and there were enough room to improve the gameplay and the story of this game. The game feels rushed kind of. Which is why it couldn't win the GOTG despite having good potential of becoming a great game.
