To understand fully the operation of sms two factor authentication, you need to understand it's mechanism and we shall be learning about them now, although we have discussed about them sometimes in the past.

• USER REGISTRATION:

One of the first step taken before the proper functioning of an sms two factor authentication is user registration.

The user registration has to do with the registration process of the user, the stage where the user inputs his Mobile number which will be used for the registration.

After the mobile number has been submitted, an initial code will be sent to the user to confirm the accuracy of the registered number.

• CODE GENERATION:

Once the user has successfully registered by inputing his username, password and mobile number, the platform then generates an otp (one time pin) which will be used by the user to access his account.

• SMS DELIVERY:

This is the next step after the generation of the otp by the system.

Here the system proceed to send the generated otp to the mobile number of the user.

The code will be sent containing information of how it should be used.

This otp is not meant to be seen by any other person and it will be sent only to the mobile number that is registered to the platform.

This password is sent in form of an sms to the mobile number, but this otp has expiry period which will be discussed later.
