Post-Quantum Cryptography and Its Implications for Blockchain Security
Years ago, there are a whole lot of things that we are seeing right now that at first that looks quite so impossible but we give thanks to the innovation of the Blockchain technology which has been able to turn a lot of impossibility to possibility. The Blockchain technology have been able to impact a lot of sectors and Industries across the world and doing so because of the strong unique attributes that Blockchain technology have in terms of Decentralisation, Immutability and also the fact that it works on a very transparent nature.
Over the few years ago, we have been depending so much on the traditional Cryptographic techniques that we always know it to be. But it also have a lot of challenges most especially when it comes to quantum computing and that is what we need to look into. If you are so familiar with quantum computers very well, you will know that it always requires a who's lot of computational power which is making it look like the traditional Cryptographic methods we are familiar with to be useless and unused.
Now there is a solution that have actually come to the picture and the name is post quantum cryptography. For many of us, we might be hearing it for the first time. When I talked about post quantum cryptography, it is dealing with the cryptographic algorithms that help to handle attacks of classical and the quantum computers which helps to give a maximum edge over the traditional Cryptographic methods and this gives a massive edge.
There is a massive threat of the quantum computing to the Blockchain world which we might not even see now but it is. First of all, quantum computing works on two major types of algorithms and they are called the shor's algorithm and the Grover's Algorithm. The fact that the quantum computers solve on the qubits. But those types of algorithms can affect the function that the Blockchain is performing. Examples like the digital signatures, the consensus mechanisms and even the data integrity and privacy also.
This is where the Post Quantum cryptography comes in. It really goes a long way to offer the Blockchain security in different areas within the Blockchain systems. Examples like the quantum resistant digital signatures, the secure key exchange and the helping in the enhancing of the consensus mechanisms. All these areas that the Post Quantum Cryptography works on helps to boost the Blockchain security much more than we can ever imagine.
