Marriage should never in any way be a pressure or a duty, it should be a personal decision that should happen at the right time, with the right person, with right reasons and not out of compulsion. Finding your peace is far more important that meeting others’ expectations.

From my understanding, “marriage pressure” is the stress that comes when you allow what people say push you into marriage. You get to please others rather than yourself.

Marriage in most cultures are seen as milestone or great achievement but I ask? Should it be at the detriment of my happiness and peace? A lot of families usually put marriage pressure on their children once they get to a certain age which makes them jump at it with whom ever comes their way.

Some other people get into marriage pressure through “peer influence.” Seeing friends, age mates or class mates get married makes them feel left behind and this pushes them into pressure in marriage.

So instead of genuine love, some rush into relationships, enduring all sorts of nonsense at the cost of their peace just to please others.

People often pressure others into marriage not because they mean harm but due to some reasons relating to “cultural beliefs.” In some families, they believe that everyone should be married at a certain age and anyone not married at that age is been pressured or seen as a problem.

Another point is “family reputation,” yes, families see their children's marriage as a show off where different aseobi would be worn and various people would be invited for them to show that they are eating the fruit of their labour without minding the happiness of that child.

We also see “fear of age,” where people get afraid that their time is running out and they might not be able to find a suitable partner. This leads to unnecessary pressure.

Hmm! I needed to breath down before answering this question. It's not easy to overcome marriage pressure because it sometimes comes on its own without any one saying a word, but still, I don't think anyone should marry out of pressure.

I have seen marriage pressure kill people, destroy people's destiny, and make people miserable. It shouldn't be so, rather it should be something of joy because marriage is blessing and not a curse, marriage is a profitable thing and not a fruitless base, marriage is love and not hate or anger.

Marrying out of pressure steals your peace forever because you can't find it anymore. It keeps your personal life on hold while you live the life of others, it makes you become a shadow of yourself. When pressures come, take a break, cool off, you can off your phone and have a moment alone while you reflect.

The best decision you tell yourself is the best you can ever get.
