Assalamu Alaikum friends, I wish you all good health. Hope you all are well. By the grace of Allah I am well. So the new season of engagement contests has started which is going very well. So I came here to participate in this "SLC21/WK1: Empowering Life-Saving Skills: A Guide to First Response and Basic First Aid", engagement contest. Here our teacher has explained many important points which we have to discuss in detail. So let's begin.

Share your any experience of your life, in which you faced the emergency that could be handled by your own only if you know the basic first response skills.

This incident happened a long time ago when it was rice harvesting time in Bangladesh. People were harvesting paddy from various paddy fields in the area. I am a resident of Mirzapur village. One afternoon I was chatting on the phone after eating. A neighboring cousin (name:chanmia) of mine was walking in the paddy field along the road next to your house. While walking, the sharp root of the tree inadvertently hurt his leg. There was no one around except me, so he shouted to me and I went. Bleeding was also considerable for this accident. In this situation something needed to be done quickly and I was there at that moment.

Having rough first response skills I knew how to administer first aid. First I ran to my room and quickly took a clean cloth and applied pressure on his leg injury to stop the bleeding. I then brought disinfectant from home and applied it to the wound, reducing the risk of infection. I knew it was only a temporary measure so informed his family and advised him to rush to the nearest health facility. This experience taught me how to save a life with first response skills.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving. There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario?

I always avoid accidents. But if I witness an accident while on the road, I must do something as a first responder. To handle this situation I must first ensure the safety of myself and the accident victim. Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to proceed.

To ensure their own protection	First make sure the road is safe then I can get close to the accident and help. If there are any cars around, I will signal them to slow down.
quickly assess the situation	I will see how serious the motorcyclist's injuries are and whether there are any serious injuries to different parts of his body. Check his pulse or breathing. Apart from this, we will see if the driver and anyone else were injured.
Call for help	Call 999 immediately and give the details of the accident. Tell them that a motorcyclist is unconscious and bleeding from his leg. They can give advice on how to handle the situation.
Apply first aid	If I have first aid supplies I will take a clean cloth to stop the bleeding and apply gentle pressure to the leg wound to stop the bleeding. I will try to keep the big leg above the wound.
checking his head	Accidents can cause head injuries, so try to keep his head as still as possible without moving it too much.
I will stay with him	I will stay by his side until the police or ambulance arrive and offer reassurance if he is at all responsive. Knowing that we are helping may give him some peace of mind.

So by taking these step-by-step steps I can help manage an emergency and save a person's life.

DRABC is a capital system used to care for an injured person in an emergency. It helps first responders remember first aid steps. Here is a brief explanation of each step.

D	Danger	Ensure the safety of the environment and yourself.
R	Response	Check the injured person's response.
A	Airway	Keep the casualty's airway open.
B	Breathing	Check breathing.
C	Circulation	Check pulse or circulation, and control bleeding if present.

Here is a list of some important emergency services phone numbers in Bangladesh and my area means Tangail, Mirzapur area. It is important to keep these numbers with everyone, as they will come in handy to get immediate help in an emergency.
