Japan discovers a third strain of Corona virus

Today, Sunday, the Japanese Ministry of Health announced the discovery of a new strain of Corona virus in four travelers from Brazil.

"The new strain differs from the two strains that were first discovered in Britain and South Africa," Takagi Wakita, head of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, told reporters at the Ministry of Health.

There was no information about the potential for transmission of the newly discovered virus, whether it could cause severe symptoms, or if it was resistant to vaccines.

The "Japan Times" website stated that the National Institute for Infectious Diseases and others are conducting detailed research on the new virus strain.

Britain and South Africa revealed two new rapidly spreading strains of Corona, amid fears of a high number of infections and a loss of control over the outbreak of the virus.

The mutated virus detected in the United Kingdom is among other mutated strains recorded around the world, and it is believed to be more contagious than the original virus.

Despite nearly a year of intermittent restrictions around the world, several countries still record record levels of infection with the emerging coronavirus, including Britain, which announced a total of 1,325 deaths and 68,053 infections in 24 hours.

Fears increased about the new strain of the virus that appeared in Britain and South Africa, but the company Biontech spread reassurance on Friday by announcing that its vaccine is effective against the mutated strain of the virus.

A Reuters count showed that more than 89.46 million people were infected with the emerging coronavirus worldwide, while the total number of deaths resulting from the virus reached one million and 925,408 deaths.

And HIV infections have been recorded in more than 210 countries and regions since the first cases were discovered in China in December 2019.
