MAIN LECTURE

Welcome once again, they main aim of this post is to educate us on onlinesecurity. This lecture educates us on simply ways to prevent your devices and data from being exposed to cyber criminals. Lets me explain ways in which we can protect our devices.

  • INSTALL AN ANTIVIRUS AND ANTISPYWARE ON YOUR DEVICES:
There are various types of malicious softwares which are designed to gain unauthorized access to your devices and data. The moment any of this malicious softwares such as viruses are being installed on your devices, they can destory your data and also act as a spy thereby exposing your discrete and personal information to the public. To know how various types of malicious softwares works click on my lecture 02 post

  • ALWAYS UPDATE YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM AND BROWSERS:
Have you wonder why we are always ask to update a particular operating system or software?Cybercriminals are always on the look out for lapses in operating system and browsers. Hackers always take advantages of the lapses in some operating system by sending malicious softwares such as virus into the vulnerable opens or lapses discovered in the operating system. This malicious softwares corrupts the operating system and can even act as a spy, transfering discrete and personal data to hackers. In other to prevent this you should regularly update your ooearating system and browers.

  • AVOID THE USE OF PUBLIC WI-FI:
They use of public wi-fi exposes our devices and data to hackers especially when our devices are configured with file and media sharing and also uses an VPN that is not encrypted. To avoid this we can ensure we use an encrypted VPN services when using a public wi-fi as it protect and prevent the public from intercepting your information when you are connected to a public wireless network.

  • A PASSWORD SECURITY:
Having a password security on your computing devices is one of the safest way to gain security against unauthorized access of users.
Hackers can also decode a password which have been used to secure a device. For this reason I would be explaining some steps in making a very strong password security which can be difficult to decode.

Here are some simple tips in making a strong password security.

  • Avoid the use of common names or dictionary words as passwords.
  • Use a password with more than ten characters
  • Use special characters such as @,#,$,! In your passwords
  • Use a combination of both capitals and small letters in your passwords.
An example of a strong password “Aouzaw@un%77p”. You can see I use the combination of capital and small letters, a special charater, numbers to make a strong password. Well while some prefer the the of passwords others prefer the use of a passphrase. So let look into the use of passphrase.

  • USING A PASSPHRASE:
A passphrase is just like a password. This usually take a form of a sentence, making it easier for you to remember. When using a passphrase you should apply the following to create a very strong passphrase.
  • choose a meaningful sentence or statement which you can remember
  • Add special characters such as !*#&
  • Avoid the use of famous Or popular statement
  • Add numbers to the passphrase
  • CONCLUSION
