Abuse, whether it be physical, verbal or mental, which is typically done by a person on his family member is known as domestic violence. Even though it can potentially be fatal or have serious consequences, many tend to just brush it under the carpet and do not consider its severity.
Domestic violence had always been a major problem in the world that is until the world started to progress, develop, and educate itself. Acts of domestic violence were deemed criminal in the developed countries and serious actions were started to be taken against the oppressors. Not only that, but social media platforms, and television programs began to call out and spread public awareness about the issue. Due to all this, these developed countries made the domestic violence in their regions drop down to a phenomenal rate.
In our country, we seem to be evolving backwards. Not only is domestic violence not taken on a serious note, its rate is increasing day by day. Today, the level of this issue has become baffling. The severity of these cases have taken a toll for the worse, and it can make any normal human being feel shivers down their spine.

Once, I happened to be scrolling down the daily news feed on my phone, when a report caught my attention. I opened it up and read about how a man had brutally beat his pregnant wife till she had a miscarriage. In utter shock, I scrolled down and saw similar cases linked below. I viewed and read each one by one, until the humanity inside me couldn’t anymore. I barely slept that night, and even when I managed to do so, horrid nightmares haunted me till daybreak.

Another type of horrid practice commonly out in our country which falls under the category of domestic violence is honor killing. No matter what happens, nothing makes you entitled to take away a person’s life at any cost; only the law makes that decision. It is deeply saddening how many young girls and boys have lost their lives as well as bright futures to this abhorring act.

According to an estimate report, 70% to 90% of the women of our country are subjected to domestic violence, and 1 in every 3 women have faced physical assault. Not only women, but children, regardless of gender, are also poorly mistreated in these households. They have to go through the trauma of watching their mothers being beaten in front of their eyes, and well as have to endure the beatings and torture themselves.
The only way we will ever be able to combat this problem and cleanse our society of it is by educating ourselves, spreading awareness, and to encourage the oppressed to speak and stand up for themselves. Other than that, we must also educate the younger generation so that not only can they be independent and self-reliant, but also know how to treat other human beings especially their own family members.
