HELLO FRIENDS!

My name is Goodnews Noah I'm from Nigeria, I trust everyone is great! As for me I'm good and it's my pleasure to join in our community the "Educate Us About Your Country" contest. But first of all I would love to seized this opportunity to thank this great community for always initiated a creative and educative contest like this which have given us the opportunity to learn about other countries in the world and also help us to remain active.

HISTORY: The name Nigeria was given by Flora Shaw a British Journalist back from January 8 1897, I learnt that the name was taken from the Niger River which is running through our country.

LOCATION: Nigeria is an African country located in the West it borders with Cameroon in the East, Benin in the West, and Niger in the North, its southern coast is on the Gulf Guinea in the Atlantic ocean, and Chad in the North-West.

There are 36 states of Nigeria and the federal Capital Territory Abuja. Nigeria is normally referred to as the Giants of Africa because of it largest population and economy. They are more than 200 million people in Nigeria as of 2020.
The modern Nigeria dated from 1914 originated with British colonization and then they merged the southern protectorate with the northern protectorate by Sir Lord Lugard.

Nigeria became an independent federation in the year 1st October 1960. It experienced civil war before and that was 1967 to 1970.

POLITICS: president muhammadu buhari is present head of state and federal government. Nigeria practice federal Republic with executive Power exercised by the president. The maximum tenor for each elected president is four years, the legislative which is make up of The Senate and the House of Representatives to check the President. The Senate made up of 190 seats while the house of reps contains 360 seats.

Tribalism, religious persecution, ethnocentism and prebendalism couple with corruption is what have plague the Nigerian politics since her independence till now.

EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM: we have the primary, secondary and tertiary education and the federal ministry of education is responsible for ensuring quality control policy formation of the primary/tertiary education, while the state secondary education board is largely responsible of the secondary education.
Overall structure: the academic year usually runs from September to July, primary/secondary decide into terms of 10-12 weeks and universities use a semesters system of 18-20 weeks.

THE BASIC EDUCATION:covers from pre-nursery to grade six and the acceptable age for this Class is from 2 years and the curriculum for them includes mathematics, English, social studies,basic science/technology, cultural creative art, religion and values. entrepreneurship, prevocational studies, agriculture and french language usually introduced in grade 4. Language of instruction is english. pupils are awarded with first school leaving certificate on the completion of grade 6(2-9 or 10 years).

After completion of grade 6 the students will progress to junior secondary education, it's compulsory and automatic. It Lasted for three years and the students will be awarded with the basic education certificate (BEC) or junior secondary school certificate base on how they performed in their final examination administered by the states government. Important subjects for this stages include English, mathematics and basic education.
Senior secondary school education lasts for 3 Years covering grade 10-12 . Four compulsory subjects are; English language, civic education, mathematics and one traded entrepreneurship. concentration subjects are science mathematics, humanities, technology and business studies. There's more focus on vocational training and this is intended to increase the employability of high school graduates in Nigeria.

In addition to public schools we have numerous private schools and most of them are expensive and located in urban areas,some of them includes Cambridge international examination curricula allowing their students to take international examination like(IGSCE) international general certificate of secondary education during their final year.

At the end of grade 12 students will be examined with 9 subjects including mathematics and English language.
The successful students are normally awarded the senior secondary certificate (SSCE) which will list all the subjects successfully taken. Students can sit for second SSCE to improve on poor results in the may/June examination. The board in charge of this examination is known as the west African examination council (WAEC) and the national examination council (NECO). The examination is open for the final year students of secondary school and as well as the external private candidates (NOV/DEC) only.

VOCATIONAL/TECHNICAL EDUCATION: this is purely for vocational training, it is equivalent to SSCE. The vocational school was established to combat unemployment among youth. The certificate awarded includes (NTC)- National technical/business certificates. The certificates are awarded by (NABTEB) National business and technical examination board. The program lasts 3 years after junior secondary school.

THE TERTIARY: Is the university, polytechnic and college education. The Nigerian government had established the joint admission and matriculation board(JAMB) to oversee and centralize admission test that's called unified admission and matriculation board, the test is computerized, students who performed well in their SSCE or at least have 5 credits including mathematics and English language can take this test, and they stand a chance of getting admission if they score up to 200, the maximum is 400. The total UTME subject combinations of 4 subjects in different field sum up to 23; engineering, medicine/surgery, Nursing science, economics, biochemistry, business administration, banking and finance, accounting, mass communication, law, English and literature studies, pharmacy, political science, public administration, microbiology, industrial chemistry etc. A student can apply for 3 institutions when registering for jamb,1 university,1 polytechnic, and 1 college of education.
The duration is normally 4-6 years depending on the course of study. At completion a student have to serve her country for a period of one year

LAW: Nigeria have 3 different system of law. The common law, customary law and the Sharia law. The common law was taken from the colonial master, but later change after independence. Customary law are traditional norms and practices such as Ekpe Oyo mesi Ogboni etc. The Sharia law Muslims and Northerners abide by them.

RELIGION: There's freedom of worship in Nigeria and it's a home of the largest Muslim and Christians population, and my country is roughly divided into two between Christians who lives in South and Muslims who mostly live in the North.

CULTURE: Our diverse feature is our people, we have more than 250 ethnic groups and more than 550 spoken languages. English is our official language, and most popular among others are Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Ibibio, Edo and Tiv.
There are different artist in Nigeria ranging from best writers like Wole Soyinka to Chinua Achebe
Etc. Our music includes Afrobeats, High life, Hip Hop etc. We have stars ✨ musician like Wizkid, Davido, Tuface Idibia etc.

SPORTS: football is our main sport and national football team is known as The Super Eagle. Kanu Nwankwo, Jay Jay Okocha, Vincent Enyema etc. Nigeria is involved in other sports like Boxing, Basketball Volleyball etc.

ECONOMY: WE HAVE THE LARGEST ECONOMY IN AFRICA NIGERIA IS BLESSED WITH ABUNDANT NATURAL RESOURCES NOTABLY LARGE DEPOSIT OF NATURAL GAS AND PETROLEUM.

Nigeria is the number 12 largest oil producer in the world and the 8th largest exporter.
AGRICULTURE: is the largest employers of labor in Nigeria with about 30%. Our major crop includes corn(maize) beans, soyabean, Guinea Corn rice, sesame, cassava, palm oil, palm kernel, groundnuts, plantain, cashew nuts, melon Cocoa and Rubber etc.

Well done . Goo job. You explain your country in very well manner. You explain each and everything . Even that about institution, sports ,religion. , agriculture, law, culture and many thing others. You way of explanation is also good. Because everything can understand about your country easily.
