Welcome to my blog, today I will be writing on the causes of poor performance in a computer system and remedies or solutions to them.

When a computer system is slow it is far from being user friendly and may not satisfy the user. Often performance is equated to efficiency and a system is efficient if it uses computing resources economically. If a computer system is too slow it reduces the productivity of the user, possibly to the point of not meeting their needs.

FACTORS THAT CAUSES POOR PERFORMANCE IN A COMPUTER SYSTEM

VIRUS

Computer virus is a virus code that duplicate itself by modifying the programs and applications causing the computers to slow down, work improperly or possibly even stop working altogether. Virus can spread when the software or documents they get attached to are transferred from one computer to another using a network, a disk, and through file sharing methods.

Remedies

• Always install and update Anti-virus program
• The best way to transfer software or documents are through the use network cable, wireless transfers, avoid using flashdrive.
• Your firewall defender should always be switched on to avoid getting virus from dangerous downloads.

LOW MEMORY CAPACITY

When I am talking about low memory capacity I mean RAM which is the primary memory of a computer that act as a storage unit for processes under execution. Believe me, the higher the RAM the higher the performance of a computer system and lower the RAM the lower the performance. A computer system that has a low memory capacity can be the most annoying thing ever, based on the fact that the system will be processing at a very slow speed and can get one frustrated.

Remedy

• Increasing the RAM size by buying a higher size of RAM example A computer system that came with a RAM of 2gb buying another RAM of 2gb will make the system have a total of 4gb RAM.

APPLICATION THAT USES MORE MEMORY SPACE

If an application uses too much memory, it may affect the other applications that are running on the same system.

Remedy

• An Operating system Virtual memory technique can be used to boost the memory space by providing extra memory.
  Note: install virtual memory with equivalence to the operating system in use.

EXCESS LOAD ON THE SECONDARY MEMORY

Having too much unused files, failing to cleanup the disk, failing to delete browsing history can cause slow performance in a computer system.

Remedies

• Hard disk-fragmenentation
• Avoid keeping files that are no longer needed; files that have been stored in user's documents folder that are no longer need (such as extra photos or older versions of documents).
• Always delete browsing history

MIS-MATCH OF OPERATING SYSTEM
Installing of operating system that is not of equivalent capacity to your computer and inappropriate bit of Operating system can cause slow performance of a computer system. Example installing a 64 bit Operating system in a 32bit specification.

Remedy

• Always check the specification of the operating system before buying and installing.

The last but not the least,

EXCESS DUST

Excess dust can cause mechanical failure, particularly computer components with moving parts. Minimizing dust where you house the computer is very important.

Remedies

• Computer system should regularly be dusted with a dry cloth or duster.
• Computer system should be covered with dust cover when not in use.

finally,

This concern mostly with CPU because CPU tends to produce large amount of heat while operating. Malfunctioning fans and heat sink can cause slow performance of Operating system.

Remedies

• Avoid blocking air flow to the computer so that it wouldn't be damaged by overheating.
• computer should not be left to run for a long time in a soft surface.
• Open windows and fans are often the best alternative.
  Note: Increased vigilance against dust should be ensured.
