Recently my course application post was approved and now I am going towards my first lecture and in this lecture I will explain about Computer Network, Server Computer & Terminals and its advantages and disadvantages.

When you read the word “Computer network” you definitely thought about devices channels communication and etc. but we need a proper definition to understand that that what is computer network.

“The interconnection of different types of communication devices, communication channel and computers for sharing information is called computer network.”

Computer network is another name and that is information network and you can call it simple net. Because the net is the best way to share information with each other on internet. Network operating system is a main function that enable to communicate all computers and devices to each other. Windows NT UNIX and NOVELL is the major example of operating systems.

These devices can be connected to each other through any communication media such as radio waves, infrared light beams, satellites, telephone line and cables.

Server Computer:

If we talk about server computer then the main function of server computer is that it controls all the functions that are taking place inside a computer network. Let me tell you that there are two other names for server computer, one is Host computer and the other is Centre computer. What message is being received from one computer to another computer, what information is being sent, what information is being shared and how to connect each other the server computer responsible for all these activities.

All devices other than the main computer or server computer, whether it is a computers or whatever that are part of in the network called terminals. The server computer and terminal can be easily understand from the diagram below;

There are many benefits of computer network. We will explain these benefits one by one and see how computer network interferes in our daily communication.

1. Centralized software management
No matter how many computers or terminals are connected to the server computer, they don’t need to have to install any software separately or update any software the user gets connected to the network easily by using already installed software.

2. Data security management
All the data is saved on the server computer, only a single person need to Handle and it can back up all of the data by single handed. This thing saves a lot of time for all the users.

3. Remote Access
With the help of computer network you can sit in any part of the world can easily done your job from home. Remote access this facility provides by computer network and in the present era people are sitting at home doing what they are doing.

4. Sharing resources
Many users can be shared at a same time computer resources like modems, hard disk ROM drives, plotters, scanner, and printers etc. We are often shoppers that many computer workers use the same printer standby so this is the greatest example of sharing resources.

5. Data sharing
Data and information can be shared between different types of users and any user can easily take data from a computer which connected to a network. For example, on internet many use share a database at the same time.

6. Saving time and effort
Saving the same document separately to computer is time consuming, Instead of saving a document on a separate computer, it is saved in server computer, which saves time. And single person can be save instead of all in this way effort is also saved.

7. Saving disk space
Instead of ten people saving the same file separately, it is saved in the one server computer from which anyone who connected computer can be copy when it required.

8. Saving money
if any organisation arrange for his employer same devices as separate very costly if this organisation I have 100 employer and he boy hundred printer, plotters and scanners it will take a lot of cost but through computer network the all user can be used as a single printer, scanner and plotters this is just because of computer network.

9. Communication
One single message can be send to all users of same computer network and at a same time all user get same message from server computer.
