Anyway, there are few things to keep in mind before buying a turtle as a pet.

CONSIDERING THE SOURCE
The source in which Tortoise are purchased are really important and hence we should put it in our topmost consideration. But we are advised never to buy wild turtle as a pet. This is because wild turtle will not do well in captivity ( As a pet). Ensuring we buy our per who was born in captivity is absolutely necessary.

It is pertinent to check local laws within your territories before venturing into buying any of the turtle breeds. For a example New Jersey in USA requires some kind of permit before acquiring any turtle considering its already stressed population.

There are federal laws that prohibit the sell of turtles less than 4 inches in size so as to avoid children putting them in their mouth. This is a big risk that should be checked.

Some CDC centres already warned people to treat all tortoise as if they are infected with Salmonella, which is believed they are. Contact points with its feeding troughs, cages, feces etc should require thorough washing of hands before any direct contact to any persons or yourself. This is to avoid handshake or touching of face within this period.

Some may start up small but end up being a gigantic turtle.
So it necessary to follow due channels and inquiries to be informed before placing your orders on them. The female turtles are also seen to grow bigger in size than their male species. But the best variety for a any beginner is to get Male species, especially the US mud and musk and red-eared sliders breeds.

Turtle are pets that live for decades, this invariably means they may actually out lived their owners. They require more space and maintenance to keep them afloat during their lifecycle. Their meals should be varied sometimes and also be messy, with enough space to roam especially in an aquarium which has a regulated temperature. They also need to be cleaned to reduce their infection load. Both in the case of water turtle, they require lesser care in this regards.
