INTRODUCTION
Thank you @Steemalive as you continue to dish out quality contest in this platform. Im certain that the sky is just a starting point for you @steemalive giving the pace and energy put in to drive this community to the top. More wins as you continue to soar higher.

Without much delay, there are local beliefs that we in Abia state have for some of our pets. Will be limiting my scope to three (3) and would also talk on both sides of the divide (good/bad) as required.

LOCAL BELIEFS ABOUT THIS THREE (3) PETS

DUCK

Duck is the common name for different species in the waterfowl family (swans and geese). The male species are called drake and the female still remains as duck.
In Igbo dialect, duck is called "Ugbala". They are beautiful and lovable birds especially when they are in motion. They are usually seen to move in a single line and they are addressed as brace of ducks or duckling (for its babies)

The only known local beliefs about ducks to my knowledge centers on when they are accidentally killed by cars. It is known that whoever kills it in this manner drops money on the dead duck in compensation for the loss or risk being killed in same car accident. I heard this belief during my days of growing up specifically from a neighborhood who has this pets.

DOGS
Dogs are the most special of human pets who has continued to exhibit unconditional friendship and love to its owner. The general local thoughts about dogs are not double sided, as they are seen to be the most helpful pet to man.

Dogs are believed to be man's best security at all levels. Even the poor who cannot afford the hybrid species also go for the local ones. They are the first frontline security to charge with, before proceeding to its owner. And over the years this belief has stood the taste of time.
Funnily, our grandparents will always tell us then, that dogs have the capacity to dictate/see bad spirits even before they harm their owners. When they are seen barking mostly at nights without any human traffic around, it is believed they are chasing and fighting off this bad spirits.

CATS
To some people, cats are lovable pets and to many others they would rather prefer other pets than cat. Cats in my place are predominantly not acceptable as pets though there are little percentage that still prefer them. Cats are believed to be tools used by the evil ones to perpetrate their evil acts. Ordinarily, with the body and eye structure it has been constantly a victim of this superstitious believe.

So most people here do not buy the idea of keeping them as pet as they believed they risk their lives harbouring an evil prone pet. As we all know, this believe has also been replicated in some of our horror home and international movies to portray this wizardry tendencies.
