There are many local belief about some certain animal in Kogi State.

Cat

Cat is a kind of pet that most people admire because of it cuteness especially the Europeans and Americans but here in Africa especially Nigeria cat is belief to be the messenger of the witch. The black ones are avoided with all cost. There was a day I was sitting outside with my mum and two of our neighbour then a black cat climb the fence and was staring at our side. My mum saw it and raise alarm the cat ran away because of the noise, then my mum and the other neigbour started praying and one of them quickly ran inside and brought out a bible and anointing oil. She anointed all of us. I was just staring at them. I then ask my mum when we enter our room and she said the cat was evil.

Dogs

The dog populary know as the man's best friend. But in Kogi state they belief a dog can see ghost. Especially in the night when everyone is sleeping the dog will be barking ferioysly and be disturbing the peace of the compound. So most of the landlords in the area will never collect a tenant that owns a dog because of the barking at night.

Duck

The fragile bird. Ducks are very fragile they die easily if hitted so in Kogi state, especially the side that is very busy. It is belief that if a vechicle hit them and the driver doesn't come down and put money inside the mouth that the vechicle will be involved in accident.
