Hello dear pet lovers in the house and my fellow steemians, trust you are all doing great? I am back again with another exciting topic. All pet lovers yearn for their pets to keep living. Because of the love and how attached they are to their pets, they wish the pets just keep living so long as they live. But often times our dreams are chattered when the unexpected happens.

However, knowing the lifespan of your pet will help reduce the pain when it eventually happens and their lives are not cut short by unexpected tragedies. I am particularly interested in knowing the lifespan of my Hazel and Lola so I had to do a little research. Please keep reading and see what I found out about Rabbits lifespan.

RABBITS LIFESPAN

We have pet or domestic Rabbit, we also have the rabbits in the wild. According to Wikipedia,

A domestic or domesticated rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus)—more commonly known as a pet rabbit, bunny, bun, or bunny rabbit—is a subspecies of European rabbit. A male rabbit is known as a buck, a female is a doe, and a young rabbit is a kit, or kitten. A pet rabbit, belonging to the lagomorphs, is not a pet rodent.

So Rabbits that stay around the house are domestic ones.

Others in the wild face more dangers than the once at home that are cared for. Wild rabbits live for an average of one to two years, domesticated rabbits can live between eight to 12 years. This is because they are not exposed to disease, food scarcity and predators.

Different species and lifespan

It has not been proven if a particular specie of rabbits live longer than others. However, There it is thought that, like dogs, larger breeds of rabbit tend to live shorter lives than smaller breeds.
Whether a rabbit live longer depends on how they are cared for. Therefore what can a rabbit owner do to help his or her rabbit live up to the expected age?

WHAT YOU OR I NEED TO DO

It is commonly said that it doesn't take much to maintain a rabbit, but this is a misconception. It has led to many pet owners neglecting their bunnies, thereby causing them to die untimely. Please as please, rabbit is needs much care and attention even maintained. We don't want to contribute to their death.

They need the right diet for their species as well as the correct housing and companionship. They also need enrichment and mental stimulation to keep them happy and to live a long life.

Additionally, keeping your rabbit's annual vaccinations up to date will help prevent illness and disease.
