Hello, Steemians. It's another precious time to share another article with you and in this piece, I will be sharing some types of pets and factors to be considered when selecting one. Thanks to the community @fur-friends for the avenue to share more about pets.
What are Pets?
Pets are generally domestic animals adopted or tamed at home for the purpose of companionship or pleasure. Basically, they are mostly kept as companions or for pleasure. Studying closely revealed that some of these pets are kept for purposes other than companionship and pleasure. I will be covering other purposes in the context.
Types of Pets
It's important to be familiar with the types of pets available before stepping in to make a choice and I have a few lists below;
Classification | Animals |
---|---|
House pets (outdoor/indoor) | Dog, Cats, Exotics |
Aquarium pets | Freshwater fish, Pond fish, Saltwater fish |
Small pets (mammals/rodents) | Rabbits, Rats, Ferrets |
Birds | Parrots |
Reptiles | Turtles, Tortoise |
Outdoor pets | Goats, Horses |
Basic conditions to consider when selecting a pet
There are a few things to consider when selecting a pet type. The basic factors will tell you the types of pets you can handle as at the time of consideration. I have a few lists below.
Home: This is a great factor to be considered when selecting a pet, the house you live in will determine if you are capable to adopt some kind of pets such that some questions should be asked; How spacious is the house you live, can you create a house for the pet? What is the climatical condition of the area, is it favourable for the animals you are trying to bring in?. Proper consideration is needed on this.
Activities: You should be able to deduce the activities you are seeking the pets for, which could be companionship, pleasure and sometimes working pets.
Physical Condition: You have to consider your physical health to see if you are capable enough to handle the type of pets you are trying to bring in.
Time: It's not about keeping pets and leave them lonely. You have to be sure you have the time to be with them and take good care of them. That's why they are pet.
Money: you should consider your buoyancy monetarily to be sure you can cater for certain types of pets.
Having discussed the basic considerations above, it's important we discuss the reasons why people keep pets. The reasons vary greatly and solely depends on individual preferences.
Reasons for keeping Pets
Many pet owners out there have a basic reason why they have certain pets at their homes which can be for the purpose of companionship, work or show. Let's discuss these animals based on the listed purposes.
Companion animals: These are the pets kept with the purpose of being a companion with the owner. They can serve the purpose of spending time with the owner outdoor or indoor, going out for a work together and so on. Such animals range from fish, birds, reptiles, dogs, cats, horses and so on.
Working animals: These are the pets kept for the purpose of work. They tend to help the keeper to do some important works like guiding the blind, herding sheep or hunting.
Show animals: These are animals used for shows. They are used for monetary purposes, as such much care and commitment is required for such pets for optimum output.
And lastly in this piece, you should consider your needs, pet needs and the available pets. You should base your final selection on what are your needs, the needs of the pet you are considering and settle for the available one of your choice after you have been able to convince yourself that you can take care of the pet.
Thanks for reading this piece from me and I hope you have learnt a few things about how to select a pet for adoption. Thank you once again.
