Local Beliefs About Certain Animals In Osun State, Nigeria | by @fredquantum | (100% Powered Up)
Introduction
Good day, everyone. The beliefs of some people in my town about certain animals are quite interesting and ridiculous. It's nice to jump on this contest organized by @fur-friends. The community has been doing great bringing our way quality contests from time to time. With no further delay, I will talking about three animals in this context, people's beliefs about them in my state (Osun State), Nigeria.

As much as cats are very lovable, there are a lot of superstitions attached to this special animal in my state (Osun State). Cats are believed to be an instrument of the witches, as many people hold unto the belief that they are dangerous animals that carries the evil power being utilized by the witches. It is established that they can easily be manipulated by the evildoers to carry out their assignment to hurt other people spiritually. As such belief, many people in my state stays away from cats and each time a cat roam in the night, people have the belief that the witches are just about to carry out their evil. So people believed keeping them inside their house might be a risk of inviting the power of the wickedness into their homes. Also, cats are believed to become mad after a few years of their existence and people don't want to take a risk of keeping them inside their houses.

The good part of my people's belief about cat is that, they are healer of sickness and diseases. They believed if anyone is sick and have a cat around him/her, such cat can eliminate the sickness by taking it to itself or even die in the cause.

Ducks are quite lovable birds and its meat is delicious (laughing out loud). Ducks are birds that are tamed and kept as domestic animals in my state (Osun State). Duck is known for its ability to lay many eggs and hatch many ducklings. It's egg is nothing to be compared to chicken's in size as it is extremely bigger. Now to the people's belief about them, vehicles don't kill them by accident without putting money in their mouth before leaving the spot. As such, if any vehicle kills them in an accident such person must wait to put money in their mouth or else such vehicle will have an accident on its way and it could be be fatal. In the case of an accident, such person involved must wait to put money in the creature's mouth to avoid having an accident. Because of this attributes and beliefs, people in my state treats them with outmost respect when ducks are crossing the road.
The first thing people in my state detest is the dirtiness of the local pigs and this has created a bad impression in the hearts of the people in my town. They see the dirtiness of the local pigs as something detestable and created hate for the animal. Also a certain community in my state believed that pigs will chase away the protecting deity of their town and with this, they banned the rearing of pigs (whether local or hybrid) in the community as a protective measure of keeping their deity to continually protect their community from evil.

This is a good knowlegde, in terms of eating duck meat i have not heard of that and in my state we know it to turn to snake when being covered with a basket.

Yea thats what we are been told that it turns to snake when covered and that is applicable to the head so the head is been buried when killed

I wonder oooo, who will take the money then and that means the duck is not ordinary it might be a godess so the money is a kind of appease to the duck,

I've not killed one in an accident 😆. But believe me people do that a lot just because they are scared of getting involved in a deadly accident.
You are right. Some of these animals are taboo in our community. Not that they did ua bad but it is based on our norms or culture.
I agree with that. What we grew up to know about them makes them scarier each time we see them around.
