The race.

Hello, my cherished companions. How can I refuse when two people invite me to participate in this competition? First, I want to express my gratitude to @f2i5 for setting up this lovely competition. Thanks to @dove11 and @waqarahmadshah for inviting me to take part in this contest.

Here is your story.

Reinaldo, executive of a marketing company, has 1 son, Oscar, who is a great athlete and is training to attend a marathon, which is the discipline of his choice. One day Oscar told his father that they should run together, that this would help him to maintain his health. Reinaldo took it as a joke, however, his son insisted, telling him that it was time to take care of himself and that running is one of the best ways to do it. Reinaldo told him that he would think about it.

At work, he told his colleagues that he would start running with his son, and he said it quite proudly. Of course, there is never a lack of someone who makes unhealthy and tasteless comments. Germán, one of his classmates, told him that at his age that was impossible, that he would never be able to keep up with him, and that he was betting that he would stop before completing the first kilometer. Patricia, one of the secretaries encouraged her, commenting that it would be a good experience, and that she should try it. That's when the boss arrives and asks about what's going on, Germán comments in a mocking tone that Reinaldo was crazy, he was planning to run the marathon in the city in 3 months with his son, his boss looked at him and asked him if he was serious, to which Reinaldo said yes, but there was a very long silence...

From here my story.

Reinaldo got a handshake from his boss, who greeted him well and said, “Yes, you can do it. Try your best; we will sponsor you”, claiming that the boss has left. Although Reinaldo smiled and welcomed his boss, he wasn't sure if he should join in. Although he was aware that his age would not be ideal for a marathon, he had to keep his son pleased. As he had three months to prepare, he, therefore, made the decision to accept this challenge.

First, he visited his family doctor to receive advice on how to maintain his body’s level of fitness for the marathon and what kind of foods and vitamins he should consume to keep his body in a good condition for this contest.

From the next day, with the advice of the doctor, he started his workout. He also received the coach's backing for his training. He first practiced for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon.

Later in the third week, he increased his workout up to an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. During the second month of practice, he increased his training time to two hours in the morning and afternoon. He felt that performing the workouts had improved his health.

Then he practiced for two hours each morning and two hours each evening. His boss granted him the necessary leave to do his practices. He didn’t want to win the race but he wanted to run the entire marathon. By the end of the third month, he was completely healthy and confident that he could run the entire marathon without any issues.

Finally, race day arrived. There were about 100 participants in the race. Before the event started, Oscar, Reinaldo's son, gave his father a warm embrace.

The race started. In the first 30 minutes of the race, about 30 contestants took the lead, and both Reinaldo and Oscar were among them. When the next two hours, only 10 athletes lead the race including them. When it was almost time for the race to be over, Oscar and Reinaldo were in first and second, respectively.

Oscar was thrilled to see his father behind him. Oscar could have easily won the race, but he didn't want to. Instead, he purposely slowed down his speed giving him the chance to his dad to win. Yes, finally, Reinaldo won the race amid the cheers of his boss and friends. When Reinaldo realized that he had passed his son, he was quite shocked. As well he was very proud of his victory. While Reinaldo took first place, Oscar came in second. Hello Reinaldo you did it, my congrats! His boss greeted him right away after Reinaldo received his gold medal and gave him a big hug.

Oscar was very happy to see her dad thrilled and silently happy for giving him this chance. Even today, Reinaldo was unaware that his son had given him the chance to win. However, his father kept up the habit of exercising, and that helped him to maintain a healthy life.
