Una de las deportistas que más admiro es la tenista alemana Steffi Graf, quien actualmente con 52 años de edad, se encuentra retirada. En los juegos olímpicos ganó medalla de oro en 1988 en individuales, bronce en dobles y plata en 1992 en Barcelona. Está casada con su colega del tenis André Agassi y tienen dos hijos. Steffi inició en el tenis a los 3 años de edad.
One of the sportswomen I most admire is the German tennis player Steffi Graf, who is currently 52 years old and retired. In the Olympic Games she won gold in 1988 in singles, bronze in doubles and silver in 1992 in Barcelona. She is married to her tennis colleague André Agassi and they have two children. Steffi started playing tennis at the age of 3.

Ganó 4 torneos de Gran Slam cuatro veces, acumulando 22 títulos, sólo superados por los 24 de Margareth Smith. La favorecía su rapidez al desplazarse. Steffi Graf fue nombrada como la mejor jugadora de tenis del siglo XX.

She won 4 Grand Slam tournaments four times, accumulating 22 titles, second only to Margareth Smith's 24. She was favored for her speed of movement. La tenista se retiró en el año 1999 tras una lesión en un torneo en San Diego. Se batió en la cancha con grandes del tenis, como Gabriela Sabatini y Mónica Seles, saliendo triunfadora. Respecto a su colega Seles, hay una historia muy lamentable, ya que Mónica sufrió graves lesiones por parte de un fanático de Graf. Ante este lamentable suceso, Graf visitó a Seles en su cama de hospital.
The tennis player retired in 1999 after an injury in a tournament in San Diego. She battled on the court with tennis greats such as Gabriela Sabatini and Monica Seles, emerging triumphant. Regarding her colleague Seles, there is a very unfortunate story, since Monica was seriously injured by a Graf fan. In light of this unfortunate event, Graf visited Seles in her hospital bed.
En Venezuela, antes de la difusión de la televisión por cable, era muy común ver los programas deportivos en canales nacionales, con narradores excelentes, y recuerdo como se destacaba la admirable actuación en el tenis, de Steffi Graf. Creo muy importante la difusión de estas leyendas del deporte, que sirven de ejemplo para aquellos que quieren incursionar en ese ámbito. Steffi Graf acumuló un record de 900 victorias, algo totalmente admirable.

Interesante reseña sobre esta tenista, no la conocía. Por cultura general y circunstancialmente había escuchado sobre su esposo Agassi, las hermanas Williams, el español Nadal. Sin duda el tenis es otro mundo, tiene el estigma de ser para gente con recursos. Es un deporte al fin, que requiere preparación, condiciones y el que desee ponerlo en práctica hará todo lo posible por lograrlo. Saludos!
