SEC - S10W2 | My Languages
It is said by frank smith that One language sets you in the corridor for life while two languages open every door along the way.
Learning not just your language but other foreign language has high benefits not just for today but also for the future and that's why is very necessary that we learn as many languages as possible .
I will like to show you the many languages that I can speak by answering the questions below
- How many languages do you speak? Which of them is the native and which ones have you studied?
I can humble say that I can speak upto three languages fluently but there is one other languages that I speak very little hoping I learn it very well soon,
The languages that I can speak fluently are Igbo language, pidgin English, English language but the once that I can't speak fluent but can communicate a little is just Hausa language,
- Igbo language
This is actually my native language and I can speak it very fluent, I didn't learn it from anyone it is my gift as a child,
Though not all Igbo languages are the same because we have about five different Igbo speaking states with different dialects but I can assure you that I can hear all of them very well but I can communicate more in the general Igbo and my native Igbo which is ngwa.
- Pidgin English
I actually learnt this language though not from school but from friends as a result of association and also my love for the accent, this particular language can be funny at times but I truly love communicating with it,
- English language
This language is generally accepted in my country and beyond, it is taught both at school and at home by educated parents, almost everyone knows the language and it makes it easier for us to communicate with other tribes that can't speak Igbo language.
- Hausa language
This language is mostly spoken by the northern part of Nigeria, I don't actually know much of the language but I learnt a little so I can communicate with their market people meaning I can for now greet in their language, ask them how market is going, how much is their food stuffs and I also know all the names of money in their language though am hoping to learn more just that am no longer living in that area but hopefully one day I will find a Friend to teach me more
- What methods have you used to learn other languages
Apart from my native language which I learnt as a child, other languages were learnt as a result of association and the areas or community I find myself but currently I just downloaded an app called Duolingo to help me learn other languages, more like foreign language for future purposes, though I Know that it will be a bit difficult but I believe that with consistency and dedicated I will surely learn it.
- In addition to the ones you already speak, what other language would you like to learn?
In addition to the language that I already know, I also what to learn Spanish, french and that's because am hoping that one-day I will visit countries that speak this languages and language will not be my barrel, hopefully I met you that is reading my post too ☺️
- What do you consider to be the most difficult thing about learning another language?
Learning other languages can be a bit difficult especially when you're learning from the internet and no one to try it out with, but when you're learning it from both the internet and friends, it won't be difficult infact the zeal to learn more will always be there unless you are determined to learn with or without help from friends Because Determination is the key to achievement
- Why do you think it is important to master several languages
Mastering several languages is not just important but is very very important because
- There is a saying that goes this way ** when you speak the language it goes to his head but when you speak his language it goes to his heart,
Meaning just speaking a person dialect as a foreigner makes him to love and accept you so if you wish to travel and blend quickly with the people learn their languages first.
In summary speaking several languages can open doors to some opportunities in life which might cause someone else a lot of money and time,

I often wish I could speak more languages. Growing up, we children were told that only Afrikaans, my home language, and English were important.
Now that I am older, I disagree completely. If I could turn the clock back, I would learn to speak a native language of my country and also French.

I did not say that English was not important. I was saying that we were told that ONLY Afrikaans and English were important, and looking back now, I don't agree with that.
I do believe that learning a language when you are a child is so much easier; therefore, I would have liked to see more languages added to our curriculum, like a native language and French.
The native language I would like to speak is Zulu, as there is just so much Zulu history in our country. Instead of learning about Zuly kings, I would have rather learned the language.
As for French, there are plenty of African countries that speak it. Besides, French sounds good. (•ิ‿•ิ)
