But to be more precise it’s better to measure strength in terms of independence, self sufficiency, resilience, debt, production and access to raw materials. Technology should also be considered.

So in answer to your question, in terms of nominal size measured in dollars, the U.S. is the largest, in terms of purchasing power, China is the largest.

In terms of independence and self sufficiency, China beats the U.S. Hence that is why China exports more than it imports with most countries around the world.

If we consider debt, then the U.S. is in a far weaker position. China’s debt is much smaller and with such a large population, it’s far easier to balance compared to the U.S.
