Flowers
This is a genus of about 80 species of annual and perennial herbaceous flowering plants in the family Tropaeolaceae, from South America and Central America to Mexico to Chile. This common name refers to the fact that it contains mustard oil as produced by watercress (Nasturtium officinale, family Brassicaceae). Early English herbalists called nasturtiums "Indian cress" after conquistadors discovered them in the jungles of Peru and Mexico and brought them back to Spain in the 16th century.
