Horse chestnut and a little about meat-red

in Steemit-Garden3 years ago

As an arborist, I once had to study a huge number of plants and the horse chestnut was no exception.

Any tree can be described endlessly, but those that seem to know everything about, but cannot see, are of greater interest.

So it happened with the horse chestnut. We studied only the one that blooms with white flowers.

Chestnuts are beautiful in bloom. Huge white candles beckon to draw them to your nose and breathe in the scent.

Nowadays the chestnut is very popular in landscaping. These plants are planted in parks, and they look beautiful in the alleys.

Chestnuts do not tolerate drought and usually in Ukraine they lose their decorative effect by the end of July, the leaves turn brown. But the Belarusian climate is not so arid, so our chestnuts are beautiful until autumn.

Studying the horse chestnut as a species, we were told a lot about pink chestnut or, more simply, meat-red (Aesculus x carnea Hayne), but it was not possible for the students to see such exoticism.

I travel a lot and don't miss the botanical gardens, but I only saw pink chestnut in Prague.

In size and shape of the crown, it is no different from white, all decorativeness is in bright pink candles of flowers. well, of course, the fruits are edible.
