But plants as diverse as tropical hibiscus, rose of Sharon with common mallow are relatives of hollyhocks. What do they have in common? The family resemblance is most obvious in the shape of the flowers the majority of mallows are more or less funnel-shaped, with five overlapping, heart-shaped petals emerging into a prominent pistil.
