The Greenhouse In Winter, January Powerup

in Steemit-Garden3 years ago

Hello, steemians!

It's January 29 as I write this post, and we are in the middle of winter where I live. The temperatures have been below zero F at night and 10 to 15 degrees F during the day, the coldest part of the year for us.

My greenhouse is used mostly for storage of bicycles and garden tools in the winter. I also have a 100 gallon water tank in the greenhouse that I use to keep my pond goldfish in through the cold winter months. The greenhouse is extra messy this winter because I didn't finish cleaning out the big growing pots last fall. There's still frozen tomato plants in half the pots. I guess I got lazy before I got the work done. That means that I'll have more work in the spring to prepare the greenhouse for the new growing season.

Here's a closer look at the big pots.

I have the 100 gallon water tank in the corner of the greenhouse. Last fall, when I put the tank in the greenhouse, I insulated the tank to help keep the water from freezing. This was how it looked after I had it partly insulated and filled with water last fall.

This is how it looks now with all the insulation around and on top of the tank. I use a lamp fixture with a 100 watt incandescent light bulb to provide some heat for the water in the tank. You can see the snow outside the greenhouse through the front windows.

This is a look into the tank with the insulation taken off the top of the tank. You can see a bit of ice on part of the surface of the water. That's not unusual for the tank when it gets very cold at night. If you look at the ice, you may be able to see spots with a faint orange color. Those are some of the goldfish.
Also, you can see how I have the lamp fixture mounted above the water to shine directly down into the water.

It will be some time in March before it will start getting warm enough in the greenhouse during the day to start cleaning up the mess to prepare for the growing season.

Since it's the end of January, this is a good time to do my power-up of my steem. For January, I saved up all my steem to do 1 power-up instead of powering up little amounts as I got them. This makes it easier to see how much steem I power up for the month. As of this evening, I had 349.911 steem in my wallet waiting to be powered up, and 2093.005 SP in my wallet.

After the power up, I have 2442.923 in my wallet.

Progress on growing my account was a bit slower this month, but I'm making progress in growing my account. I've been powering up 100% of my steem for the past few months, and it's helping my account grow.

That's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!

I see you still have red tomatoes hanging in pots? If they are not frozen, then they can be used for food and prepare sauces and salads.
Would you like to breed goldfish? Is it for food or for pleasure? As always, the most beautiful post from you, it's a pleasure to read it.

Thank you!
The tomatoes have been frozen since the end of November, it's been too cold to spend time in the greenhouse to clean it up.
I just have the goldfish for my enjoyment. I like watching them swim in the pond in the summer. I don't breed them on purpose, but they lay eggs in the pond and I always have some little ones in the pond by the end of summer.
