Putting Tomato Plants Out In The Garden
Hello, steemians and gardeners!
It's been a week since my last post, I've been busy but I'm finally getting back to write another garden post.
I mentioned in my previous post that I wanted to get my tomato plants planted in the garden. I was finally able to get that done, as well as some other garden work. Before I get to that, here's a picture of my greenhouse tomato plants, they're growing nicely.
I decided to put the tomato plants into my smaller garden plot this year. I like to plant them in a different part of the garden every year. That helps to keep the plant diseases from accumulating in the dirt.
This is the garden plot that I chose to use this year for the tomatoes. This is from when I was starting to prepare the garden for the tomato plants.
After I had the garden bed prepared, I started planting the tomato plants.
I put in all but 2 plants that day. I thought that the last 2 plants were still a bit too small to go out into the garden. The red saucer around the bottom of each plant is called a "tomato crater". They help protect the base of the plant and stop weeds from growing under the plant.
I also had planted 2 of the tomato plants in the big white planter tub next to the garden.
There was still some space left at the end of the garden plot, so I decided to plant some summer squash plants there. I also planted the last 2 tomato plants that day.
I also have another small garden space that I decided to use for summer squash plants this year. I didn't use this little garden space for plants last year, I used it to pile up extra garden dirt to save it. I had to move that pile of dirt before planting the squash plants. I put the dirt into buckets to make it easier to move.
After I had that little plot cleaned up, I planted some squash plants in it.
I still have to get my green bean seeds planted, I'm hoping to get that done in the next few days. I'm still preparing my container garden for that.
I have 2 more of those big 20 gallon pots to put into the line and fill with dirt and then I can get all my beans planted. I like growing the bush type green beans in these pots. It's like growing them in a raised bed. They're easier to pick, and they stay cleaner.
That's all I have for this post, thanks for checking it out!
