SLC S21 Week 6 - Beauty and Self-Care with Herbs by @rossnenye

Hello everyone, good morning to you all and welcome back to my blog. I really learnt a lot during this 6 weeks duration and I don't want this contest to end.

Herbal Hair Tonic: Make a herbal hair tonic to promote the health the of the hairs. Write the herbs used in the tonic. Explain how the tonic will help for the hair health. Write the step by step process of making hair tonic. (3 Marks)

The Herbs I used in making this is

  • 8 leaves of Hibiscus Sabdariffa
  • 8 seed of Clove
  • 1 piece of Tumeric.
Procedure for the preparation
  • Pick the Hibiscus Sabdariffa to remove the bad ones from it.

  • Wash it in water and then add it to the pot.

  • Pour water to the pot.

  • Wash and add the clove to the pot.

  • Boil the mixture for about 15 minutes.

  • After boiling it, allow it to cool.

  • Use sieve to drain the mixture.

  • Peel the back of the Tumeric, wash and blend it.

  • Add small water to it inorder to sieve out the juice.

  • Add it to the pot.

  • Allow the mixture to cool, then add it to a Spray bottle and use it to massage your hair in the morning and Night.

Benefits of Hibiscus Sabdariffa to the Hair

  • Rich in Vitamins and Minerals

It contains high quantity of Vitamin A, C, E which promotes hair growth.

  • Rich in Minerals

It also contains minerals like Calcium, Iron and Potassium in high quantity which helps to promote hair growth.

  • Reduces Dandruff and itching

It has antibacterial and antifungal features which helps to reduce dandruff and itching.

  • Moisturizes the hair

It contains moisturizing features which helps to lock in moisture in the hair thereby leaving it soft, skinny and smooth.

  • Adds Color to the hair

It contains natural coloring Pigments which makes the hair very dark.

Benefits of Clove to the Hair
  • Hair growth

It contains essential Compound which helps the hair to grow fast.

  • Stimulates blood flow

It also helps to ensure maximum blood Circulation in the hair scalp thereby enhancing hair growth.

  • Soothes scalp irritation

It's oil can be applied to the hair scalp to soothe irritation in the hair.

  • Anti dandruff

It also contains antifungal and antimicrobial features that helps to treat Lice and Dandruff in the hair

Benefits of Tumeric to the Hair
  • Reduces frizz

It helps to reduce hair dryness thereby leaving the hair shiny.

  • Nourishes hair follicles

It contains Antioxidants and Vitamins that aids to nourish the hair scalp thereby improving beautiful hair texture.

  • Prevents hair breakage and loss

It stops the production of Dihydrotestosterone, a hormone that causes hair loss and breakage

  • Protection from damage

It also shields the hair from harmful hair products, UV radiation and overheat.

  • Strengthens hair roots

It also makes the hair roots strong, thereby preventing breakage.

Skin Care Mask: Prepare a mask for the skin purely made with the herbs and use at least 3 herbs to prepare a mask. Write down the procedure and explain how it helps for the skin care. (3 Marks)

The Herbs I used for this includes.

  • 1 piece of Ginger
  • 2 pieces of Tumeric
  • 1 tablespoon of Thyme

Procedure for its preparation
  • I peeled the skin of the Ginger and Tumeric.

  • Wash and blend them with the aid of my manual blender.

  • Add 1 tablespoon of Thyme to it.

  • Then add a little water to form a paste.

  • Apply it on your face and wash it off after 10 minutes.

Benefits of Ginger to the Skin
  • Anti inflammatory features

It contains anti-inflammatory Compounds like Gingerol and Shogaol which helps to shield the skin from Inflammation and redness.

  • Antioxidants properties

It's made up of powerful Antioxidants that helps to shield the skin from toxic free radicals thereby preventing the damage it causes to the skin.

  • Improves skin Elasticity

It contains essential nutrients which helps to improve skin Elasticity thereby reducing wrinkles and aging and enhancing appearance.

It's anti-inflammatory and Antioxidants features helps to reduce acne and hyperpigmentation in the skin.

It applies on burns, cuts and scrapes on the skin to soothe it.

It's contains natural Antiseptic which helps to prevent the body from contacting infection from small cuts and wounds.

It helps to give the skin a glowing look, thereby improving the skin tone.

  • Prevents inflammation

It's anti-inflammatory properties helps to reduce redness and inflammation of the skin.

Benefits of Tumeric to the Skin
  • Natural skin lightening

It contains Compounds which helps to give the skin a glowing look.

  • Enhances healing

It contains essential Compound which helps to fasten the healing of injury.

  • Anti-inflammatory features

It contains Curcumin, a powerful Compound which helps to reduce inflammation and redness in the skin

Relaxing Bath Soak: Make a bath soak with herbs and write about its benefits for relaxation and self care. 2marks).

Ingredients i used includes

  • 1 piece of Ginger
  • 8 leaves of Hibiscus Sabdariffa
  • 1 Tablespoon of Thyme.
Procedure for its preparation
  • Wash and add the Hibiscus Sabdariffa to the pot.

  • Peel, wash, cut the ginger into slices and add it to the pot.

  • Add 1 tablespoon of Thyme.

  • Boil for about 10minutes.

  • Your bath soak is ready.

  • It has natural relaxing effect which helps to relax the muscle and reduce Muscle tension

  • it's the best remedy for a restful night sleep.

  • It also helps to ensure maximum blood circulation in the body.

  • It is also very Therapeutic and helps to relief Stress and tension.

  • It also has great calming and soothing effect on the mind and body, thereby promotes mental clarity.

  • They also helps to promote a sense of well-being by reducing anxiety and promoting general well-being.
