June Plum is a fruit tree of the family Anacardiaceae native of Polynesia and cultivated in tropical countries...

And we have them in my country too! And they are known as Fruit Cythère! And they are known with different names across the world...

So why not make a post on this fruit which is becoming quite rare nowadays and most young will not even know this fruit!?!?

Let's start with the different names this fruit is known in some countries...

And we have a lot... Ready, let's go!

The most common name used in English speaking countries, especially in the Caribbean is: JUNE PLUM!

While in Jamaica they call it : GOLDEN APPLE and other regions of the Caribbean OTAHEITE APPLE is also used!

AMBARELLA is commonly used in Southeast Asian countries such as India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.

And in Malaysia and Indonesia they name it : KEDONDONG

In some French-speaking regions, POMME CYTHERE parts of the Caribbean.

From my research, we also have CIRUELA DE HUESITO used in some Spanish-speaking countries. (Maybe our friends here can confirm this one!)

In United States and some English-speaking regions we find the term: GOLDEN PLUM!

In my neighbour’s yard, there is a tiny June Plum tree with small flowers as well as smaller green buds, promising something special to come soon!

Tiny Flowers, Big Promise...

This tree started blooming with small flowers since the beginning of January this year.

From Small to Not-So-Big Buds...

Some small flowers are already growing up to be tiny green buds.

Every day, they get a bit bigger... it's nature's way of being patient and making something wonderful.

In general, fruits fall from the branch while they are still green and can be eaten directly or after a few days, in different forms (raw, cooked, jam, juice, dried, ...).

June Plum contains about 80% water and is a very good source of vitamin C (about 26 mg per 100g), as well as essential minerals such as potassium, calcium and sodium.

Before ending this post, I must let you know about the taste from my tastebuds...

June Plum has a sweet and tart taste, juicy and refreshing!

And now...your turn to make me learn about this fruit if you know about it! Please do share any recipe you may have on June Plum...
