What is the date of Independence Day in your country and from whom your country took independence?

I am a Nigerian in North Central in West Africa.

Independence means, Freedom.

Nigeria became a sovereign nation in 1960. That's the Independence Day of Nigeria. Nigeria took her Independence from the Great Britain.

Who is a prominent national figure associated with your country's independence, and why are they important?

One of the prominent Nigerian nationalists who struggled for Nigeria's Independence was Chief Anthony Enahoro, Sir Herbert Macaulay

Others are Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo, Chief Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe, and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the first Nigerian Prime Minister, amongst others.

These people were very important because they stood for the country's interest and not theirs.
They fought for Independence to liberate Nigeria from the economic deprivation of the British.

They were also important because they never fought for religion or region or ethnicities, but looked at the interest of the nation.

They didn't do that to amass wealth for themselves. Some of them lived in rented apartments while some lived in family apartments.

Why do you think independence is compulsory for a nation or country?

Independence is compulsory for any nation to make it have leadership freedom; it should choose the type of leadership it wants.

A country with Independence will choose the Constitution based on its culture and tradition.
It will have the freedom to decide its economic policy.

Independence is also important because the independent country will use the common language that they will understand themselves.

Do the people of your country perform any special activities on your country's independence day? Tell us about them.

Yes, the people of Nigeria on Independence Day, different ethnic groups in Nigeria displayed various cultures.

Before then, they raised the country's flags in all the regions of the country. The uniform personnel had a parade and displayed different styles.

There were guns shot by hunters, blacksmiths displayed some magic. They heated iron to a higher degree of heat, used their bare hands, and removed it from the fire.

Farmers piled some sand and planted ma,iz,e, and it rained just within where they planted, and everyone watched the crop growth,e, and then a monkey from nowhere removed the maize and eate

The local barbers called Wanzamen removed the head of a king, barbed it, and fixed it back after barbing.

In a nutshell, Nigeria got her Independence on 1st October 1960, through the effort of some true Nigerian nationalists like Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo, amongst others.

Independence gives a country the freedom to decide on its leadership style. At Independence, different cultures and magics were displayed.

This have marked my story for the day. And I want to invite @vickyson @josepha and @simonnwigwe to join the contest.
