POLLUTION IN NIGERIA

Pollution is the release of harmful substance into the environment through mans activities. In Greek word pollution is also known as defilement.
The materials and energy that causes pollution is called pollutants.

In Nigeria today, many pollutant accumulate in the environment because they are non biodegradable, I.e they cannot be broken down into simple harmless substance. They include plastics, rubber, cans, glasses, and metal scraps. Pollution is a very dangerous environmental hazard that must be stopped and prevented. They are different types of pollution namely:
1 Water pollution.

2 Air or atmospheric pollution.

3 Land or soil pollution.

The main cause of water pollution is the indiscriminate dumping of wastes into water bodies and this has become a habit of many Nigerian. In addition to this, pollutants in the air, vegetation, and soil are mainly drained into water bodies through rainfall. Some water pollutants commonly known are
1 refuse and sewage
2 industrial wastes
3 crude oil
4 agricultural wastes etc

AIR OR ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION

Air pollution is caused by the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas. Burning of fossil fuels happens In manufacturing industry, electrical power plants, motor vehicles, incinerator etc. These industries have become a source in which air pollutants are released into the air, these pollutants released include various smokes, gases, root, dust and grit.

Noise production by aircraft's, vehicles and heavy machinery is another form of air pollution. Sound that is irritating and unclear is called noise. Noise pollution has increased over the past few year,This is because they are commonly used in busy Towery, cities, mining and industrial centers. Sources that produce noise are from motor, airplanes, machinery, television, vehicles, and humans. Noise which goes on for a long period of time has a way of making us tired and irritable, it can cause sever headache, and even deprive us from sleeping well.

LAND OR SOIL POLLUTION

This is another form of pollution which damages the fertile soil which covers the earth surface. Soil pollution is mainly caused by erosion, as a result of careless farming methods and extensive cropping.
Land pollution is as a result of dumping garbage anywhere. Garbage includes domestic, industrial and agricultural solid wastes. When this form of pollution is carried out on the environment, it makes it uncomfortable for human to stay due to the dirty environment and the the disease it brings.

In conclusion, Nigerian should deviate from indiscriminate dumping of wastes, pollution of any kind as this not only affect the environment, it also affect our health, our body and it also leads to so many diseases.
