"Steemit Engagement Challenge S13W2- “What is the most popular employment in your country ?"

It is another great week of engagement contest in this wonderful community. Employment is one of the basic needs of almost all persons. It is required by majority to earn a living. We use our salary to take care of the home, provide food, pay rent, buy cloths to cover ourselves, pay for medical bills, have a little recreation and attend to other exigencies. So it is very important to be employed. Unfortunately, the invention of Artificial Intelligence(AI) tends to lose a threat to the jobs carried out by humans.

Let us now see the employment majorly seen in my country and how Artificial Intelligence(AI) will affect them.

What are the most popular employment in your country?

The major employment space in my country is the Civil Service employment. This civil service employment may be either at the Federal level or from the state or local government level.

This civil service employment cuts across all sectors of the economy, be it educational, medical, financial, agricultural, works and housing, electrical, land sectors , etc.

Many always prefers employment in the civil service because of the job security attached to it. They are paid by the government of the day. Retrenchment or sacking is rarely seen. Employees most times work at their own pace and rigidly follow the timing of the job. They are also confident of the monthly pay and other allowances that come with it, even being promoted along various levels as you stay on the job. Another reason why it is most sort is because of the pension and gratuity that also paid to the employees at their retirement.

• Another popular employment in my country is the banking job. Fresh school graduates easily get employed in the banking sector. They are used at teller points or customer service points. It is a good start-up fresh graduates.

Even I had the opportunity to work in the bank as an industrial trainee. It was a great opportunity then and I worked in two different banks within the one year that I served both as a marketer and as a teller, customer service assistant and an assistant to the then auditor of the bank. I gained a lot of experiences then. It was highly sort for during that time and even now. I also married my husband as a banker.

Do you believe "AI" will help or create problems in the job market?

I believe Artificial Intelligence will do both. It will be helpful and at the same time create chaos in the job market.

Artificial intelligence will help in jobs being done at a fast rate, with less assistance or human intervention. Presently, carrying out most activities in the offices are always time consuming and sometimes the negative human factors come into play.

If for instance one walks into any office in of the civil service sectors to carry out a particular activities, in most cases. The whole day will be gone for you. The employees are usually slow, inhumane and you will need to give them a tipoff before they can fast track your transaction, unless you personally have a friend or relative there. The whole process is usually time consuming and tiring.

I could remember when I went for nursing form purchase, I spent more than 5 hours just to get everything done and at the same time had to give the woman who attended to me a tip off because she even demanded for it though in a friendly manner. But this will not be the case when artificial intelligence is employed to carry out these duties.

On the other hand, Artificial Intelligence will bring chaos in the job market. It will literally take over most of the jobs humans perform. It will lead to serious mass unemployment generally with it's attendant consequences of theft and all other kinds of social vices as a result of idle minds.

How to reduce rising unemployment.

There are some simple measures that could be taken to reduce increasing unemployment. They are

° Increase Occupational Mobility: this can be done by running schemes and programs geared towards helping the unemployed with the acquisition of new skills. Thus, enabling them to secure a new employment.

° Improving geographical mobility of labour: this is about making it easier for people.with the right skills to move where the skill is required. Making the movement involves such things as reduced rent cost , reduced cost of living in the new place, etc. This will make it poasible for unemployed people to move to a new location easily.

° Tax reduction for Business: this is especially for those companies that employ much workers. The government should reduce the amount of taxes they pay for low level staff.

° Increaser Labour demand: there should be a high level of demand for labour which leads to creation of new jobs.

° The government should motivate and encourage innovation of entrepreneurship: This will result into creation of products and demand for new employment opportunities to market the product.

Conclusion

It is quite true that humans really need employment to survive, however the introduction of Artificial Intelligence will definitely bring high level of unemployment, thus causing chaos in the society where idle minds will turn to become the devil's workshop.
