Hello, my good Steemit friends! I am happy to have you here reading through my post, in which I have discussed the functioning of democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is about showing good governance.
How is democracy functioning in your country?
Nigeria is a democratic country that operates on a federal system of government, where the highest political position is the president. The president is the executive level of government, followed by the judiciary, which is headed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and the legislature, which is the law-making body. In the country, headed by senators in the national assembly and houses of representatives at the state level.
Based on the things happening in Nigeria today, I would say that Nigeria's democracy is not functioning well as a democratic country. We have lost the true democracy we were enjoying when Nigeria gained its independence in 1960.
The reason why I say that Nigeria's democracy is not functioning well is because today's system is highly corrupt and is killing the liberty that Nigerians were enjoying.
Is your country free from any domination?
Nigeria is free from any demonization rules. However, it is difficult for some religions to rule in Nigeria. In Nigeria, power is usually rotated between Christians and Muslims, which means that after the ruling of a Christian person as president, a Muslim person will take over the next leadership position, and vice versa.
Although today it is no longer like that because some parts of the country feel cheated due to the current government that we have, in which both the president and his vice president are Muslims, However, despite that, Nigeria is still free from any domination.
Is your country self-sufficient in food production?
Nigeria have sufficient food, but because of the lack of industries and companies that will preserve, it is making Nigeria look like a country that has less food production.
In terms of food production, Nigeria is self-sufficient. However, we still prefer imported goods like rice and meat due to how they are redefined abroad.
How is youth employment in your country?
Youth employment in Nigeria is very low. Most Nigerian youths are jobless because there is no company or industry to employ them. However, getting a job in Nigeria is now strictly based on connections, which has made the matter worse for youth who have no one at the top.
What do you want your country to be like?
I want my country to be a well-developed country. I want Nigeria to be the richest and most developed country in the world, where everyone has something meaningful to do. Also, I want Nigeria to be free from corruption and oppression by the rich and those in power, who usually use their influence to intimidate the poor masses.
