Steemit Engagement Challenge S11/W6 - “Most Popular Game of My Country----- Football Ball”

It's a new week and a new engagement contest, so I'm glad to take part. Sports and games are forms of entertainment, some people take part in them or watch them on the television just for a pastime or to make money in case of betting. We have different kinds of Sports/games in Nigeria which include, football, cricket, tennis, badminton, volleyball, handball, racing hurdles, running, jumping, boxing, Scrabble, chess, Ayo and Monopoly etc. But the most popular among them is FOOTBALL.

Football is Nigeria's most popular sport. Our football team is one of the most talented in Africa and the world at large. Football history in Nigeria is backed in the early 20th century and was introduced by our then-colonial master ~ the British. Football is in the limelight because it is believed to be one of the factors that helped Nigeria to gain independence on 1st October 1960 and it was since then that Nigeria became a member of FIFA. So football helps to establish a greater sense of community with the country and develops the Pan-African, Not only this it's a crucial aspect of our nation's identity.

As a matter of fact, there are more than 300 football teams in Nigeria and many Football clubs and academies too, both the young and old love football, even school children normally find it interesting and entertaining, all these makes it more popular.

Yes, football has been played in international competitions like the Olympics, FIFA Senior and Junior World Cups, African Cup of Nations, Unity World Cups etc. Nigerian teams have been winning numbers of these games for example the U-17 became world champions many times in 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.

U-23 Won a gold medal 🏅 in the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta and again, won a silver medal in 2008. They also won the first-ever World Cup 2014.

The U-20 team represented Africa in the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship in Mexico.
Nigeria hosted Junior world cup and others before.

Of course, our footballers are world-class and we have so many Nigerian footballers who played for international football clubs, the EPL (English Premier League) Italian Football Club ~Serie A etc Few examples are below:

1) VICTOR OSIMHEN: He's a Nigerian footballer who plays as a striker for An Italian league club - Napoli football club, he's the most expensive African footballer and his market value stands at 120 Million Euro.

2) TAIWO AWONIYI: A Nigerian professional footballer and a striker for Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

3) WILFRED NDIDI: He's a professional footballer playing as a midfielder for Premier League club Leicester.

4) ALEX IWOBI: one of our professional footballers who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Evaton.

These are just a few we have many others.

Nope, as I said before there are other popular games in Nigeria, just that Football is the most popular. Nigerians are into board games and are winning really big at an international level, games like chess, Ayo, Scrabble, cards and Even school children are being taught some of this games example chess, and People in general play these games for fun and to make money too. Other games like running, tennis and swimming still exist, and they serve the same purposes, for recreation and money!
