Christmas traditions in Australia are different from those in most countries in the world because the last week of December is probably the hottest of the summer.

Christmas in Australia is a different festive season where people do not expect snow, but it's harsh sunshine, and traditional suits are replaced by beach shorts, which are popular otherwise too.

Australians celebrate Christmas in the summer sun or occasionally in the rain.

The best part is the schools are closed for summer vacations so most Aussies take the opportunity and go out swimming to beaches, camping, or spend their time barbecuing.

So, as I said, the summer holidays and Christmas. In Australia, it's a summer affair!

So, you will find too few families caroling, but most of them go camping instead. For Aussies, the fun lies in the sun, beaches, and camping, besides partying together during the entire holiday duration.

However, Australians love to decorate their houses, and they probably do it better than anywhere else because a lot of space is available to them for this purpose. And their decoration is not just limited to Christmas trees but they decorate the entire area.

You can see wreaths adorning front doors and even go carol singing well before Christmas. And for sure, people enjoy it regardless of which religion they belong to, but all of them do Christmas lights!

As Christmas approaches, all neighbors make it a friendly competition to see who can do a better light display. We are trying our best to stay competitive although we are way behind as yet.

Let me add at this point that streets across Australia raise money through charities for children's welfare and cancer prevention societies.

People enjoy cherry picking and the ‘Christmas Bushwalking’ as a favorite outing.

And if you’re lucky, you might spot the jacaranda tree in full bloom, its purple flowers making the season even more colorful. But we have one right in our sitting room and as far selfie, you can see me taking its picture in the mirror right in front.

I have enjoyed Grand Carols by Candlelight in different cities by famous Australian singers, especially in Sydney and Canberra.

So I am giving you one I recorded at the local mall a couple of years ago as I have not come across one so far this year.

As you can see here, the local communities celebrate their own versions, complete with bands and choirs. And yes, some of the areas are snowclad, even if artificial, to give them a perfect Christmas look with the perfect winter setting!

Now we are waiting for the feast of the grand meal on Christmas Eve, but this grand feast for us has nothing to do with a religious point of view but the Christmas tradition. As we do not eat meat so no turkey for us, not even for guests on Christmas day. Neither do we stay awake until midnight when Jesus was born.

However, we serve our guests in our true traditional style, just because we don't eat non-vegetarian food they go hungry. Instead, we serve them something else and they all like it.

My wife serves some of the best curries she makes with fewer spices of course as only Indians can eat as many spices as we can but our Italian, British, American, Canadian, and guests from other countries prefer less or no spices but salt and black pepper. So we are out to supermarkets to buy some of the ingredients as well as get the ideas.

But we can't say the same about drinks because as per traditions most guests bring different kinds of alcohol and they drink as per their choice from our mini bar.

Can you imagine a Christmas without gifts to your loved ones, friends, and coworkers so while my wife windowhopping before entering a shop?

But I prefer online shopping so I am trying various catalogs and ordering some of them online.

So yeah, as we countdown to Christmas Eve my wife is busy preparing the list of guests and menu vibrant-tastingting food according to our guests' list.

December 25th is reserved for Church wherever we are in India or anywhere else.
I invite, @darpado, @josepha and @aviral123 to show us their celebrations.
