What was your last travel destination?

My last travel destination was Nigeria, Ekiti state to be precise where I went to visit my older brother at college. It was a joyous experience for me because I had missed him so much. Growing up we had always been together, cooped up in the house alone, we attended the same primary and high school and college split us up.

The first day he had to leave for college, I followed him, and when I realized he wasn't coming back home with me. I could feel the teardrops in my eyes.

This was a very strange feeling for me as up till that moment, I never truly knew or experienced what it was to genuinely miss someone so going back to visit him again made me so much happy.

Who did you travel with?
I traveled alone.

It was my first time embarking on such a long journey alone and throughout the trip I had my mum on edge as she kept calling and texting to make sure I was okay. This is because Nigeria isn't really a safe place for long journeys but thankfully I made it to my destination safe and sound and my brother was right there at the part waiting for me. I got there late though because the bus developed some fault on the way.

What fun activities did you engage in?

I had the most fun I ever had that year, which happened to be two years ago. I got to meet all my brother's friends and they were really fun to be around. We all joked and played a lot of games when we could.

This was the moment I realized I should actually be open to making more friends back at my own college as when I was here with my brother and his friends, it felt like home once again.

We also went out, and visited places where my brother would joke about us being twins to playfully confuse other people.

Did you mix with the local culture? If yes, please explain your experience.

Yes, indeed I mixed with the local culture.

I even got the chance to see my grandparent on this trip although he's late now( may his would rest in peace Amen!)

I happened to take a picture of him and I'm really glad I do as it is the only picture I have of him that I took myself. It's so sad to watch your loved ones go, but there's really nothing we can do about it.

How was the food?

The food was really nice.

Since this place gave off more of a village-y feeling compared to the city life I've been constantly exposed to, the food over here was more of the native food and I got to eat a lot of our local dish most especially pounded yam and efo riro.

I don't have media from that journey as I've changed devices since then and I lost a lot of information in the process. Thankfully I had my steem keys saved on my PC if not I would have lost this account too and had to start again. I've looked up an image of the said meal for you to see

Did you do any shopping?

Yes, we did some shopping.

I took this moment to get myself some clothes with my brother's guidance as really, I had very poor selection skills when it came to clothing so I made sure he went along with me and selected the clothes.

He teased me a lot about my poor dress sense and lack of interest in change. We also did other minor purchases but most of our expenses aside from clothing went towards gasoline for cooking and fuel for the generator.

The lessons you learned while traveling in that area.

In one sentence, "LIFE IS FUN" if you let it.

I've learned to be more open to people and experiences alike. Up till then, I didn't really think it necessary to go out and explore on my own. I would usually stay locked in my hostel at school. I remember a semester where I didn't even step out of the school gate as I felt all I needed was right there in school.

If you're currently this way, please don't do this. Your school years are one of the most important years so its advisable to balance studies with fun also. Remember, all work and no play makes jack a dull boy

WHO IS DOPPLEY

Doppley studies accounting at the University of Lagos and take up a big hobby in writing. Having a good eye for details and description, he loves social blockchains.

His goal on steemit is to make numerous connections with people and put out valuable articles for the steem community to consume and interact with. Basically to be like water, which slips through fingers but is still capable of holding up a ship.

He juggles many interests, writer, saxophonist, accountant, data scientist, trader, real estate agent, and some others at once but his passion keeps him steady.

Saludos amigo doppley.
